A Truly Exceptional Hojicha — Smooth, Toasty, and Calming

Let me start off by saying that I have been drinking Hojicha tea since 2019 here in the states and when I go to Japan. I am very familiar with this tea. When I saw this new item available on Amazon, I decided to give it a try. The aroma is beautifully rich and toasty the moment you open the bag, and the flavor is smooth, rich, and perfectly roasted — no bitterness at all. You can tell this is a thoughtfully sourced and carefully roasted tea. It’s become a part of my daily ritual, especially in the afternoons when I want something grounding without the caffeine buzz. Highly recommend if you’re looking for high-quality hojicha that feels both elevated and approachable. Will definitely be repurchasing! Read more

Delicious and easy to make

This is really delicious. I had never tasted this before, and so I have been learning about this roasted green tea. It is the same kind of tea as Matcha, but because it’s roasted, it has a more mellow, toasty, almost smoky flavor. The closest thing I could compare it to is pu erh tea. From what I have read, it is a good source of antioxidants and has relatively low caffeine, so it is popular in Japan for elderly and children, and for drinking at any time of day. It looks like a very small bag, but it only takes a little bit to make a drink. My favorite way so far is making a latte with it — mixing a bit of the powder with water as per the instructions and then with some heated milk and a little bit of raw honey. It is absolutely addictive. I’ve been using cows milk, but I think I will try it with plant milk next, because apparently the casein in cows, milk can bind with some of the antioxidants. I like Matcha tea, but I think I like this even more it’s got such a good flavor. It mixes very easily in water. I have one of those little frothing, whisk things, but I discovered I don’t really even need it for this. I just like it for frothing up the milk. I noticed that the ingredient list is entirely the tea itself, There are no added sweeteners or other ingredients which is great. The ingredient list also says that it is organic I don’t see it listed as organic anywhere online. Since I have never tried this kind of tea before, I can’t compare it with other brands or types of this, but it says that it is sourced directly from small family farms in Kyoto. Comparing it to other brands of this type of tea online it seems a bit more expensive by the ounce than some others, but I think it is still reasonably priced. Read more

Unique and nutty

I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but it it a little nutty and smoky just like advertised. I'm quite impressed that green tea powder can taste like this with toasting. This is a neat drink with a unique flavor. Read more

Great taste and great alternative to coffee consumption.

I’m a lover of matcha tea and I was surprised how much I enjoyed the additional roasted flavor. Lower in caffeine too so I’ve been using as a coffee replacement through the day. I also prefer to drink my tea iced and I’ve been enjoying this more than other substitutes. Read more

Wonderful Smokey flavor. Green tea calmness w/o the caffeine high.

I bought this as a low caffeine alternative to match. I REALLY like it. The taste is a touch smokey but pleasant over all. Really, it is good! Read more

Delicious. Dissolves quickly.

It dissolves a lot easier than matcha powder. I added about an inch of hot water to 1 tbs of the powder and stirred it vigorously with a spoon. I then added sugar and stirred it again. Finally, I added milk. The tea is delicious and it doesn't have any bitter or fishy tasty some matcha powder has. Read more

Wonderful roasted flavor

I prefer roasted teas, and this one is no exception. Macha flavor, but roasted. And lower caffeine so I can drink it later in the day without wrecking my sleep that night. Read more

Oddly Smells like Coffee

It has notes in it that remind me of coffee, almost like they somehow managed to roast it or something similar to coffee. The powder is finally ground up but a little bit thicker than I expected but not lumpy. I'm still on the fence on how to feel about it, but it has that green tea scent in it, but faintly. I'm going to try to use this as an alternative coffee replacement for a bit but it's pretty strong taste wise. Update: After tasting it, I wasn't wrong. I needed to split this in half and then dump an ample amount of milk in it to dilute it. I'm not sure if I understood the instructions correctly because I wasn't sure about the amount that was needed per the amount of water unless it's supposed to make like a larger batch. Anyway, The Taste is pretty robust, almost on par with coffee but not being the same flavor as coffee. This tastes a lot better when it's a lot more watered down and it has like some other flavor added to it which I added a strawberry flavor. Read more
