I was able to add the plug/gateway to the smart light app without issue. From there I was able to add the included surface switch. I really like the surface switch, it has two buttons, and each button can be configured for a single press double press and a long press. That gives me a lot of flexibility in my home automation system. Sometimes it's a hassle to find a computer or phone to run an automation, this switch is more like a handy remote control that's always around and can be used to turn on my home theater. I think the surface switch has good range as I normally keep it in my office and the gateway is 60 feet away. The surface switch is designed to be mounted over an existing wall switch or used as an independent remote. It uses a CR2032 battery that’s been working for 2 months. Replacing the battery is very cumbersome. You must pry open the case unscrew 2 screws and slide the battery compartment out. See the included instruction picture. I was also able to add a third party Bluetooth exterior water valve without issue. The system has been very reliable. For the price you can't go wrong with this package deal. Read more

The media could not be loaded. It was a pain for me to setup, however our son had no issue with it. So, it is working flawlessly for use with some outdoor lights that needed to be plugged in to work and have to go outside to unplug. It has several ways to set it up with too many variables for the common man (me) to make use of… long press for one function, fast press, double press, etc… goes for the same for the other button. I had son set it up one press top button on, one press bottom button off. Anyway, works really nice. You can mount the button on the wall using screws, tape or Velcro. We have it sitting on granite counter top next to other light switches and the little rubber feet on the back of the button makes it almost stick to the counter. Works great! Read more

Intermatic is a tried and true brand whose products I have learned to love. Last thing I expected was to have a defective product delivered, but unfortunately that is what I was provided to review, so review I shall. I received one box with two components boxed separately inside--the plug-in power module (Smart Plug) and the wireless Bluetooth control switch (Surface Switch). As it turned out, each is a separately configurable device using the Intermatic Abra app, and both need to be set up via the app. That app is easy to use and seems to work perfectly. The Smart Plug was quickly configured without issue, requiring connection to my phone's WIFI network which it uses to allow app control from anywhere within range of the network. That's cool. I connected a lamp to the Smart Plug and am now able to turn the lamp on and off, via the app, basically from anywhere in the world. The fly in the ointment was the Surface Switch. Though it is immediately recognized and added as a device by the app once placed in pairing mode, it just as immediately goes offline and is no longer addressable. From what I can see the intent is to program the two buttons to perform desired functions to a quick press, a double press, and/or a long press. Being a Bluetooth device I believe that is how it should be communicating with both the app and the Smart Plug to control the latter as programmed by the former. Despite my best efforts I could not verify that since it never stayed online long enough. The included written instructions do provide the steps required to change its 3VDC battery so I removed the battery and tested it to make sure that was not source of the issue. No joy, it was fine. My next step will be to contact Intermatic for warranty support. Hopefully that will yield more positive results to add to this review. Read more

The smart outlet part works great. I can control a circuit easily from the app. I am unable to get the switch working. User error? Defective product? Couldn’t tell you! I’m pretty tech savvy, but no electronics genius. For now, its just fine with the app. But something to be aware of for your use case. Read more

I love the face that I can add a wireless switch where one did not exist, to activate a power cube. I feel like the pairing process could be simplified, as it took me longer than it should. Now that it is installed it works pretty well. There is a noticeable delay when turning it on/off, and you have to wait a bit between turning it on/off. The switch does stick out off the wall a bit. It didn't matter in the shop. It would not look great next to a nice Decora style light switch in a house. Read more

This thing is constantly turning itself off and staying off. Kind of defeats the purpose of monitoring or controlling power when it decides instead of you. Read more

Works to add smart functionality to any dumb appliance that can be controlled by switching power on/off to it. Such as a lamp or any device that will do what its supposed to on power up. Read more

You will need to download the ABRA app (another smart app to control your devices????) to control the smart switch and the smart plug. Both readily paired with the ABRA app on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. The challenge was finding devices that work with the ABRA app. Intermatic markets a very limited selection of devices that work with the ABRA app and the associated devices. I could not get a MATTER-Certified smart plug to pair with the ABRA app, despite the fact that these ABRA devices are MATTER-certified. Disappointing. Bottom Line: Intermatic is a good brand for electrical devices and these devices work well. The problem is how to use them unless you purchase expensive ABRA lights (very few-limited selection) and ABRA smart plugs. Thus, another app and more devices that do not speak to your other smart devices or controllers. Read more
