Love this thermometer! This is our second one after having the first for several years before it bit the dust when my son accidentally broke off a piece of the sensor. Love that it can be used for both forehead and ear with no fuss. My son loves checking his temperature himself; it’s pretty much foolproof. Read more
Edit: After posting this review @ 1 star, the company took the initiative to contact me and send me a replacement unit. The new unit properly reads ear temperatures now, and our whole family was around 98.3-98.6 when at rest on the couch. The forehead is still a bit low, but much more consistently in the low 98s. I have noticed with the new one that the placement of the thermometer on the forehead is very sensitive and can vary from 96.5 to 99.6 going from right above the nose up to the hairline; however, it seems that for each person the temperature gradient is consistent +- 0.3F. So at least now we can make a note where to measure each kid on their head to compare to a healthy 98.6 temperature. 4 stars due to the inaccuracy of +-0.3F, but I feel much more comfortable relying on this for temperatures now. ------------ We've had this for a few months now. We took the initiative of taking "healthy" temperatures in the forehead mode - multiple times because our kids turned it into somewhat of a game. Our healthy temperatures were usually 96.5-97.5 F. I know mid 97s can be legit, but I've never heard of 96 being normal. The ear one would never consistently work at all and read too low of a temperature. That said, when we needed it when I and my son had fevers, it was difficult to say what our temperature actually was. Do we add 1.5-2 deg to the 100F it's reading for a 101.5-102.0F temp? In any case, I am very disappointed in the quality of this product based on the other reviews. Should have returned it when our healthy temperatures were so frequently inaccurate. Read more
This is actually a really accurate thermometer. I had purchased this year's ago and it became ruined when my then almost 2 year old threw it in the bathtub. It wasn't in stock at the time and ended up having to purchase a couple other non accurate thermometers. I seen recently that it was back in stock and purchased it. It has been very nice to have this month with my daughter being sick and then making me sick. Read more
UPDATE: Not at all accurate. Our entire household is sick right now. I have felt slightly warm and took my temperature well over 100 times in the past 2 days. My head always shows cold, which is probably accurate considering I have a fan blowing on me and windows open. However, my ear temperature has shown inconsistent temperatures, even taking it multiple times within a minute. The truly bizarre thing is it’s showing that I have a rather severe fever every so often. I don’t feel hot, just slightly warm, yet sometimes it says I have a fever of 103.5, which is alarming. I checked myself with other thermometers which showed I do have a fever but only of 99 degrees, not that severe. This thing clearly does not work properly at all, at least by using it in ear. I’m glad I didn’t actually pay for the item. I have a temporal thermometer that we’ve had for a few years now. It can be fickle to use sometimes. I usually prefer the ear ones but I hated having to buy the caps. I always wondered why they didn’t just offer an ear thermometer that you can just clean rather than spending more money and having more waste just to check a temperature. You’re already disinfecting things if you have someone sick in your house, so no big deal to take some alcohol and swab this clean. It was freezing outside when this was delivered, so it actually gave me an error message when I was trying to use it. It took about 30 minutes for it to actually work. Awesome that it came with batteries so I didn’t have to worry about finding some that fit and weren’t dead. It does seem to be accurate though. Testing it against my current temporal thermometer as well as a laser thermometer it seems to be getting readings that are almost exactly the same, not even a full degree difference so it’s accurate. I like that it has red when you’re showing a fever, that’s handy. I sat on our forced air heater to get my skin warmer than normal and got a reading of 101 and it was read and beeped. What I don’t like the the beep cannot be turned off. That’s annoying. When you have a sick child that is trying to sleep and you’re bugging them checking on them it makes things worse. I’m really surprised they didn’t include that feature as almost every digital thermometer that I’ve seen out there has that option. I like my old temporal thermometer for that because I can silence it and check temperatures without the kids even knowing I’m doing it. So at the very least I’m going to keep my old one for that. This will be used when they’re awake. But it’s nice to have 2 because we seem to misplace ours a lot. It comes in a storage bag which is also nice. Our old one came with no cover or bag so it’s gotten pretty beat up over the years and I’m not sure how it keeps the sensor accurate when it’s exposed to being thrown around our medicine cabinet and around the house when we have someone sick.
