I was just getting started in my sourdough journey, and this kit was perfect. Everything is really high quality, easy to use, and works like a charm. The only thing I would do differently is to have the sticker already attached to the glass. I had to put it on myself, and it was not easy. So far, this has been great. It’s a sturdy glass container with a nice wide opening. The stir stick is great quality with an edge on one side to scrape the starter. I’m currently trying to make my own starter and it’s nice to have the elastic cloth top as well as the plastic top for when my starter finally is active. The band is convenient as it has the days and times. You just line it up so you don’t forget when you fed it last. The thermometer sticker that comes with it is also helpful. My starter has been taking a lot of time, but I think it’s because our house is too cool. If I didn’t have the thermometer sticker, I probably would’ve gotten more frustrated. The jar also shows how many milliliters are currently in the jar and it has a sticker on it that shares how much the jar actually weighs which is super convenient because I forgot to weigh the jar before I started the whole process. Now I will never forget! Overall, this is an excellent starter kit. I feel like it gives you everything you need. Although this is my first time making sourdough, but so far I haven’t felt like I needed anything else. (other than the scale, but I already have one of those.) Read more

Heavy Glass and super shape to grow a starter. I am so happy with this sour dough starter kit. It has everything needed for a first time breadmaker. I love that it comes with a self stick thermometer and the elastic band to measure your starter growth. In addition, the silicone lud and the cloth lid give great options for covering your starter. This is a great jar. Wide enough mouth for easy cleaning. The two different “toppers” cover both storage & fermenting. The band lets you keep track of feed times and the rise. I’ve had this for two weeks now and have already baked 4 loaves of sourdough bread, made 2 loaves of sourdough pumpkin bread, and 2 batches of sourdough double chocolate cookies. Had not done any baking for 10 years but started again after much encouragement from my husband. So glad I purchased this starter kit. It’s hands-down the best invention for feeding, maintaining, and storing sourdough starter. Love the interchangeable lids and the day/time elastic band. Attaching a picture showing what I have discovered to be the best utensil for stirring the water and flour in when feeding, and also for removing starter for use in cooking: a big ol’ meat fork that’s been in the drawer for years, barely used!
