This thermometer has to be calibrated, because it will probably come to you "way off". I followed the instruction on the YouTube video, "How to Calibrate an AcuRite Coil Thermometer", which shows to take the cover off and turn the pointer needle on the front--it worked for me. There is also a tiny screw on the back, but it was too hard for me to handle and use, so I did it according to the video. If you turn the pointer dial in the front, be gentle and don't break it. And, you have to turn it slowly--watch the video. Repeat: Turn the pointer slowly, up to a MAXIMUM of 2 or 3 turns, and release it SLOWLY. I need more time to see if it is going to be accurate. For what I wanted it for, how I am using it, and the small amount of money I paid for it, it is just fine. It is easy to install, or hang up, but the calibration is a bit of a pain. I like it and would buy it again, but I don't know how much to recommend it, if at all. UPDATE: I am using it in the indoor temperature controlled hallway in my seniors' apartment building, so the temperature does not vary out there very much. However, after I calibrated it a few times, and compared it to another thermometer I have that is accurate, this thermometer has been "spot on". But, the calibration actually does require patience and finesse (if calibration is needed). Just what I wanted--I like it. Read more
When I took this out of the package, the temperature was reading 82 F. I was in my office, and the temp was 74 at the time. In three days, this unit has only moved between 79-81 F even though I have set it in three different locations ranging from 72 to 94 F In the photo, I have this thermometer setting right next to an analog thermometer and also the base unit of a digital thermometer that has the local temp listed at the bottom (inside the "house") and the temp at three other remote units. The local temp reads 76 on both the digital and analog thermometers, and this product is showing 80. The digital thermometer has three remote units. #1 is outside in our chicken coop without the exhaust fan running (no chickens inside.) It reads 96, and the brass analog thermometer read the same. #2 is in my kitchen (down the hall) It reads 73. The brass analog unit read 74. #3 is on my back patio (at the time of the photo was in direct sunlight.) It reads 96. I took this thermometer to the back patio when the electronic unit was reading 94, but this thermometer remained at 81. I took this unit to the kitchen where it was in the mid-70's and this unit remained at 81. I bought this to set up in the chicken coop. If I trusted this product and used it in the coop, I'd put my chickens in peril. This item I received clearly is not functioning at all. Read more

I purchased this product to use inside my henhouse as we have 100 chickens. And during our hot summer Florida months, it can get pretty hot in there and we have three fans circulating the air and pushing the air outward to keep the temperatures down the thermometer has been very helpful With keeping an eye on the temperatures in the house well, my chickens are laying their eggs. Placed it in a good area. Iβm able to check on the laying hens and adjust the fans accordingly. I would say that the thermometer performs as it should, itβs very durable, for a chicken hen house. The appearance is fine. They donβt even notice it. The battery life seems to be lasting for quite some time, and it has rained on The thermometer before I moved it to a more secure, better location. It has still kept working, so it is performing quite well and doing its job. I recommend this thermometer, itβs a little smaller than I thought, but itβs perfect for the henhouse. Read more
