This is a pretty good but not great, very basic rice cooker. Making rice in this cooker is straightforward: If you want to make the maximum amount of rice (8 cups cooked), you add 4 cups of rinsed white rice, add water to line 4 and press the switch. If you want to make a smaller amount of rice, you use a 1 to 1.2 ratio of rice to water. On the plus side, everything you need for cooking rice is included – rice cooker, inner cooking pot, steam tray, measuring cup, detachable power cord, instruction manual and rice serving spatula. I like the modest price (currently $35.99) and the fact that the parts are dishwasher-safe. It is also a very attractive appliance and looks really stylish. On the down side, there is no timer and the cooker has only two functions, a “cook” function and a “warm” function. The cooker switches automatically to warm function once the rice is cooked. That’s all fine if you just want to cook rice. However, there is no separate control over how long the stuff in the steamer cooks and the instructions, which are fairly sparse, don’t say whether you can put in or take out the steam tray in the middle of cooking rice. The 8-cup capacity allows you to cook plenty of rice for all but the largest families if it’s just a side dish, but isn’t large enough for many one-pot meal recipes. The seller’s photo says it’s an “All-in-1 Cooker” and shows photos of noodles, stewed rice, cakes, etc. So I assumed that it could make one-pot meals and tried a recipe meant for rice cookers. I thought the cooker would be big enough for the recipe because it only used 2 cups of rice, but it turned out not to be large enough after all. Unfortunately the cooker also switched from “cook” to “warm” before the meal was evenly cooked and then it wouldn’t let me restart the “cooking” option, so I ended up with a one-pot meal with some components that were undercooked and other components that were overcooked. It would have been helpful if the seller could have included a few one-pot meal recipes that would actually work in this cooker. Moreover, for some reason the cooker tripped the GFCI breaker. Nothing else was on so it had to have been the rice cooker, although I can’t figure out why the breaker would have been tripped. The other thing I found a bit offputting is that the rice cooker had a nasty chemical/plastic smell when I first opened it up, although the smell did go away. So there are definitely some limitations to this rice cooker, although I do think it would work well for families that are not too large and primarily want to make rice. It would be especially good for a dorm room (although might not be allowed). Read more

UPDATED REVIEW: This rice cooker has significantly deteriorated after less than three weeks of use. The top no longer latches securely. It takes several tries for the latch to decide that it wants to close. More importantly, the machine randomly decides when it wants to cook rice, and when it wants to leave it uncooked. There have been many instances when I prepare the rice and set it on "cook" mode, only to come back to the "warm" light being lit but the rice has not cooked. In short, this rice cooker is a terrible product. DO NOT BUY. Read more
