This pillow is perfect for both back and side sleepers, its comfortable and provides just the right amount of support. If you are a back sleeper you place your head directly in the center. For side sleeping place your head on either side of the pillow. Its lifted higher than the center so it acts as if you placed your hand underneath your pillow on a normal pillow. Don't waste your money. I tried. I really did. It's just not at all comfortable. It's a poor design. The tab that goes under your neck isn't big enough or long enough. The hole for your head is too round, not head shaped, and the top of your head ends up being pushed down toward your shoulders. The wings on the sides for your arms are really useless. And there's no room for your shoulder if you're on your side, so you're still cramped and not properly supported. I'm a woman, BTW, not some huge dude, but this pillow is just all wrong.
