Great for quick shredding v/s the one with a crank handle, it’s so much easier to use and then toss it into the dishwasher. The handle is comfortable & easy to hold, the grater part has enough space to shred the cheese and works well. This is one sharp grater. And I mean that literally and figuratively. It grated celery very easily without leaving any strings hanging off the tiny pieces. My old grater was not sharp enough to do that. The cup that snaps on and off the bottom worked beautifully to collect all the celery which I then poured into the salad I was making. Then I tried it on fresh ginger. My old grater would grate the ginger, but not without a lot of work. This grater is so sharp it made easy work out of getting a full tablespoon of grated ginger into the cup in very little time. As stated in the description, it has slide-on guards you can put on over the grates when it's not in use so you don't accidentally cut yourself when moving it around or picking it up to use. I've used the largest grate and the smaller one, both with equal success. I have not used the zester, yet, which snaps on and off one side. If you're looking for a very sharp box grater, this is the one to buy. It feels and looks like it's very well made. Not a kitchen tool that will fall apart after a year or two of use. Nicely designed grater, *mostly*. The grater surfaces are very sharp, which is a little scary at first (I had an old Microplane box grater but it had gotten pretty dull by the time its handle broke, so I wasn't used to it.) The little "receptacle" box is clever and works well, both in its obvious role but also because it lifts the grater up off the counter. However, the receptacle box comes with a little lid but mine was either broken upon arrival or it broke within one or two uses. I don't know how it broke, and I don't really care because I'd probably never use it for storage anyway, but take note if that part of the product is of interest. I can't imagine that the box or its lid are replaceable separately. Read more

I'll start with the only minor negative aspect: the side with the large hole to be used as a slicer isn't that great. It has only one slot and the grater is still too narrow. Even cucumber are a bit of a pain to slice on this. Everything else in the design and quality of the product is somewhat impressive. For fifty years I have used cheap graters and I initially thought that this purchase was a bit silly in terms of cost, but after a few weeks of use I have absolutely no regret. The grating grids are very sharp and extremely well shaped, making it very easy to grate and to clean. The steel seems to be of good quality but I haven't had it for long enough to discuss the durability. The box that fits the bottom of the grater is incredibly convenient - I with there were two. The removable zester is the most accurate zester I have ever used: you get all the zest and none of the white underlayer. It is also reasonably sized, even for someone with very large hands. After trying out this superb grater, I gave away the others. For years I've been switching off from a cute little French lady whose skirt is a grater -- very cute, too small -- a long narrow fine grater and very fine indeed -- a curved medium grater I could never get to hold still if I was grating hard cheese -- they're all gone, gone, gone. Oxo's grater is fabulous. The handle is comfortable. You can get a good grip, and the construction is so strong, it's easy to keep it steady even if you're grating granite (only kidding). Every blade works wonders, the catch basin that comes with it is perfect, and the detachable zester/fine grater is absolutely wonderful. Worth every penny. Read more

I am so beyond pleased with this item (even though I just got it yesterday). I should really update this when i have used the grater, but so far i have just used my removable zester. The zester is wonderful; comfy to hold and takes the top layer of a lemon off like no other. it doesn't go deep into the lemons skin; just pure zest. Overall, I can tell the other graters are very sharp and will work well. I love the comfort of this product. the top of the handle has whatever coating it is, so it is very nice to hold. I love the Box at the bottom of the grater, and how i can just grade cheese right into it. I debated on this product, because there are cheaper options out there, but the quality is certainly worth it. Only thing I wish was different is the handle to be a little taller for me to fit the plastic container into it for smaller storage in the cabinet. This is very nit picky, and my only idea how i wish it were different, but I am so happy with this purchase. Read more
