The question that everyone wants to know when looking for an item like this is, "Does it shave as close as a razor blade?" The short answer is no. Having said that, my experience with this shaver is that it shaves my head *nearly* as close as a razor without all the razor burn, nicks, and cuts and I'll take a "less than skin close shave" to all that any day! It REALLY does a great job for what I need it to do. The shave time is reasonable, just according to how "slick" I want my head to be. Shave time varies, a good daily shave takes about 5 or 6 minutes. A real close shave takes a little longer. The noise level is OK and doesn't really bother me and it's VERY easy to clean and maintain. Charge time ain't bad and I've shaved my head about 4 or 5 times and it's not even lost a "bar" on the charge indicator yet. Comes with a really nice travel case, a small cleaning brush, a mirror, USB charging cord (but no wall wart), rinsing station, protective cap, and a full set of replacement blade cartridges. It's an awesome shaver made even better with the inclusion of the extras! I highly recommend it. Read more

So Im’a try and keep this simple and helpful, So I've been shaving with Gillette Razors for years, from the Mach 3, fusion 5, pro guide , the new Gillette Lab , murkur adjustable double edge razors. I also have a Norelco SP9841 prestige electric shaver , plus a Panasonic arc 6 . With that being said I am really into my shaving I shave my head And my face every day, and I Ihad been using my regular razors daily , until I ran across the new head shaver from Phillip Norelco, I was excited to purchase it to try it out , which I’ve only had it for three days and I love it, The HS9980/40 and the HS 7980/40 has the same cutting performance and runtime, but I purchased the HS 99 80–40 because I wanted the three indicator lights. The head shaver, shave my head so close to the skin that I haven’t used a regular razor in the last three days I probably won’t be using a regular razor anymore, because the new Philip Norelco Shavers HS9980 is doing a fantastic job, although it’s my first head shaver I truly believe it’s the best on the market right now and probably will be for sometime in the future, I like a wet shave with shaving cream because it seems to give me a closer shave and when I say close I mean baby booty close. I do two passes with the head shaver and re-lather up for each shave just like I would with a regular razor then after I clean up my from shaving with the head shaver, I put on my moisturizer on my head and then I re-go over my head to get all the little extra left hairs and that cleans my head up real smooth, then I back it up and use my Panasonic arc 6 foil shaver and go over my head again. And man i’m telling you the new Norelco head shaver shaves fast and it doesn’t take me much time to do two shave passes and get a clean close shave, I just love how well it shaves my head like I’ve use a regular razors it’s awesome. To me the key is to give it time for your head to get use to using a Electric rotary shaver if you’re new to it, and you should start being able to tell a difference in the performance. I use my Phillip Norelco Sp9841 on my face and it gives me the same type of close shave on my face as well, I am a big fan of Phillip Norelco shavers, i’m so glad I have waited to fine the perfect head shaver & the best. Like I said I haven’t touched a regular razors in three days and there’s no need to because my shave is the same and probably even better, and faster 5 to 10 minutes and i’m done shaving. Clean-up is so simple and fast I just rinse the shaver head off under warm water shake it off and send it to the side to dry and it’s ready for the next shave for the next day, The battery life to me is excellent I’ve shave for three days so far and it’s still on the third indicator light which is great to me, I think the 90 minute run time will give me lots of shaves. To sum up my review if you’re on the fence about purchasing one of the new Philip Norelco head Shavers, don’t hesitate pull the string you won’t be disappointed, just give it some time to adapt to it. I love the head shaver so much I’m telling everybody about it, I hope my review is helpful to someone or lots of people that is thinking about purchasing the new Phillip Norelco head shaver. I was really excited to see that PN released their own take on a skull shaving device — and was I not disappointed. This thing blows Freebird out of the water. It'a well built, it works much better with uneven surfaces aka curves and bumps, and compared to a brand new FB blade does a much better and faster job at, well, shaving my skull. The device is very convinient to use, ergonomics is awesome, and the shaver comes with a carrying case and a set of replacement blades which is very nice. Replacement blades also don't cost a fortune, — also a plus. My only issue could be the battery life — it's expected to last 5-6 cycles while Freebird in my experience required a charge once in a millenium, but we'll see, maybe in my case the battery will last longer than advertised. Once again — this is THE best head shaver I've ever had, for a reasonable price, definitely recommend, 10/10. Either w Read more
I used to use the skull shaver. I would use the baron blades since the forte gave me horrible razor burn. I still got razor burn every once in a while I just thought it was normal maybe I pushed to hard or something. Well I've been using this shaver for about a month now and not once have I gotten razor burn and I feel like this shaves way quicker than the skull shaver ever did . Very pleased with the battery one had to charge it once in a month I use it every other day. The blades snap off just like the skull shaver so cleaning is just as easy. I feel this is superior for a cheaper price. Happy with the purchase! Read more
Better than some other skull shavers I have tried, but I just can't give it 5 stars. It does a good job with shaving my head, but really drops the quality when trying to use it on my face and neck. Read more
I've tried all the electric head shavers out there. They didn't hold a charge or fell apart. Always went back to the old school razor 4 or 5 blade etc . But after a few recent head ' scapings that bleed for days or needed gluing. Even with a fresh razor blade and head lathered always a chance of serious cut. So, i was determined to find another electric razor for the head. So, i started my search again. They can range from $30 to a couple hundred. So, i went with the Philips. As soon as i took it out of the box. I could tell it was built stronger 'it was much heavier. Then i charged it and used it. Once you turn on you can tell much more powerful and better-quality rotary blades. The cut feels like i used a razor blade. i waqs very impressed. Best part you can shave while driving ' watching tv and don't need a mirror or water. Comes with a mirror and nice case Read more
