Drive is amazing, Low hours compared to other refurbished. Seller prompt, competent communications.

Andrea C. RolandoFebruary 14, 2020

So, I usually don't do reviews: I don't like to give my endorsement for something out of the spur of the moment, and a couple years later finding that there was no support, or that the product was a dud, and so on. But in this case I felt I could do a happy exception. I premise that I am an IT enterprise architect and among other things I have worked with storage for 25 years, so, not a noob. These SAS drives are notoriously reliable, fast and low cost compared to anything else out there, period. Enterprise use 24/7 to NAS, high availability or business tolerant scope, gaming to backup: these beasts are made to last if used proper. So, getting them refurbished, at a fraction of the original costs, even with limited warranty and high hours (8000 or so) on them, is a no brainer. If treated proper, 90 days/1 year, even 3 years will be past and gone before these enterprise grade things even hint to cough up issues that other SATA drives usually present right away. Yet, sometimes rare, you CAN get a dud, and that is when you need to rely on the seller for support. Manufacturer's warranty is out of the picture from start as no seller ever is certified on used, and WE ALL KNOW THAT. So on these purchases we need to rely (or gamble) on the seller's reputation and support. The reason I am here today writing this, is because when I received my drive, I realized something was wrong. The drive was running hotter than expected, slower and doing soft errors. I got a SMART alert and decided to do a proper scan and SMART report. Found out that the drive came from a hard-on environment, that was over-stressed with load/unload cycles and was about to die. I contacted Amazon first, as I could not reach the seller over the phone for some reason. Then they reached out to the seller and oh boy! I had Alex communicating with me via email as not to bother me in between meetings: he asked competent questions and understood the situation. A replacement for the drive was shipped super fast and I was back up and running in under 5 days, which in this industry is considered lightning fast. So, recap, of the many purchases I made before on other platforms and even in Amazon, this is the most reassured (and surprised) I have yet felt about drive purchase in years. I'd recommend the product anyday, and with this seller, as far as I am concerned, you are not gambling: I will be back for more moving forward. Again, thanks Alex. Read more

33% success rate

Joseph F. WiedmayerJuly 18, 2020

Ordered 2 one failed while syncing. Got a refund then ordered a replacement - which also failed while resyncing (PERC raid card). The one that works is amazing so I think it’s a crapshoot. Before you write any sensitive data onto the drive be sure to burn them in to make sure they’re in good shape. Read more

Should have went to SAS drives long ago.

David W StudemanJune 5, 2022

I have 16 of these in a ZFS RaidZ3 array. It's nice to finally be using drives that are actually made to be operating constantly as well as finally using SAS drives instead of SATA. The seller may ask if you know you are buying SAS since they get a lot of returns because people thought they were buying SATA. If you use a SAS controller, either would work but SAS is better for the same reason why SCSI (SAS is the Serial Version) was superior to PATA (SATA is the serial version). Full duplex and about 250 I/O's simultaneously on the SAS bus which is still less that a 4 lane NVME will do or even FCAL(Fiber Channel). Just be sure you know what you are buying. I always put a note to the seller that I am buying SAS on purpose. These drives will sustain maximum 260MBs throughput which winds up being 2.08mbs in comparison to 1gbs for 1gbs NIC for a single drive. My array being the ZFS equivalent of Raid 7 where I can lose three drives with no loss, can only be written to at the same rate as a single drive but with the 13 drives that are NOT parity, the same array will be able to be read at about 28mbs. Even a 10gbs ethernet would be a bottleneck while reading but whatever you are writing to is the limiting factor so 2gbs ethernet would be adequate for now and these are spinning drives, not SSD. All drives I received are in great shape, no reallocated sectors, no pending sectors so I am very happy with these drives. Read more

Run a bit hot, but otherwise great drives.

AnthonyJuly 30, 2019

Bought a batch of 6 of these drives to put in a custom NAS. One drive reported pending hardware failure within 30 days of installation (even after successful burn-in). Seller shipped replacement without hassle. A couple of drives report many hours of operation, but they are working just fine. So far the drives are working perfectly (except for running a bit hot ~39 C). Dropped these in to a couple of Rosewill hotswap cages (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DGZ42SM/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) without any hassles. Definitely make sure your system supports SAS (not SATA) drives before ordering. Read more

DIF Formated

KedJanuary 9, 2024

BEWARE! If you buy these SAS drives. (I got 2 of these) and both are D.I.F formatted which means if your want to put them in a TrueNAS server they MUST be re-formatted to 512 sectors. It takes around 16 hours for the re-format. They do work good after that. Read more

Decent refurbished SAS drives

krenosisJuly 30, 2019

The drives that I received were previously in service for 4 years. They had alot of data transferred through them, both read and write. Two of them had 1 defect that was listed, but the other 3 had none. And I'm not sure that the one defect is anything to worry about. Their power cycle count was less than 50. I was able to run SMART tests on all of them and they were fine. The vendor that sold these was ANYHDD. Read more

I have been using Seagate SATA drives for many years, these SAS models are fast! I was amazed at the increased throughput even when my RAIDZ setup. Definitely worth the price paid. Read more

description is lying, these are all heavily used

Michael BraicuJanuary 15, 2025

Description is lying, these are NOT refurbished. All 7 purchased are all heavily used with 6+ years of continuous power-on-hours on them. These are pulled directly from servers some still formatted for DIF with data on them. Read more
