This is the lightest stable tripod I've seen. Impressively stable for it very light weight. I already owned the next size upward from Slik. So I expected that this would be well made, and indeed it is. If light weight is your highest priority, this is a good choice. But for general use, the next larger size is only about a half-pound heavier. Both of my Slik tripods have legs with 3 sections, which I like. Many travel tripod legs have 5 sections so they collapse shorter. But this one collapses short enough and saves you from the tedium of fussing with 15 sections (3 x 5). Read more

I purchased this tripod to lighten my load when carrying camera equipment on backpacking trips. The tripod comes with a carrying case but without a tripod head. After installing the tripod head the weight of the tripod the total weight was 2 lb 4 oz, compared to my older 3.6 lb tripod. This tripod is also more compact than my old tripod so it is easier to pack on a backpacking trip. The tripod feels stable with my camera mounted with my wide angle and Nikor 18-140 lens, but I haven't used the tripod in window conditions. Extremely valuable. Held binoculars and spotting scope very steady a an smooth when glassing. More critically, I rested my 30-06 on it to raise the gun above the brush, and successfully dropped an elk with this guy. The hunt would not have been successful without this exact tripod. I will never hunt again without it. As my first backpack hunting tripod (previously used a gun-mounted bipod), I was nervous by its bulk and weight when I first received it. But when comparing to my father’s it’s very lightweight. I feel it in my bag, but don’t notice the bulk or length in the big side pocket of my frame backpack. The fifth leg section is critical for when you are sitting on a steeper hill or on a rock (which I always was) and one leg extends downhill. It can be used while standing when the tripod is at full height. It is comfortable to use at full standing height when using an angled spotting scope or when using binoculars to scope downhill, but required me (6’0” Male) to slouch or adjust the tripod to be able to glass with binoculars on the horizontal or uphill. I researched probably 50+ tripods for my back country colorado fall bear hunt. This tripod was super lightweight (I went with a cheaper head that worked flawlessly but was heavy) twist locks held up great, super table even in wind. Performed well in cold and hot, snow and mud. Although the weight rating isn’t huge this tripod holds all of my optics exactly steady while not breaking my back. You can’t beat the weight of the tripod for what you’re buying g. Additionally, being 6’1” I’ve been able to glass without any issues standing up. When collapsed I have absolutely zero issues fitting this on my pack. I’m definitely happy with my decision to go with the CF-634. Read more
