Good quality

This does everything that II want and more. I didn't think that it would be that good but it really fooled me. II am so happy with it that Ii want to get another if I can find one. My order was here in a few days and I installed it right away. We have used it several times already with no problems at all. I couldn't beleive how easy it is to use. I recommend it to anyone who wants to put their movies on DVD. I didn't need a tuner because I use a cable boxso it was what I needed. "Two thumbs up" Read more

Sony rdr gx257 recorder mi

Was as stated. Works perfect. It came much earlier than expected. The remote was the wrong one. But I have several remotes and power cords for this recorder, so that wasn't a problem. I'm pleased. Read more

Great DVD Recorder

Nice machine for DVD recording from a vcr. Received this refurbished recorder from Audio Video & Scientific Corp. through Amazon Marketplace. It works like new and came with its original remote control and complete printed out instruction manual. Do not hesitate to purchase electronics through this company. Read more

Good and bad

This unit was easy to set up. What I wanted from it was to be able to record from cable. I have had older DVD/RW systems and they worked ok until they broke. This new machine keeps saying that it is blocked and can not record. I have tried it on many different variations and it has yet to record because of the blocking issue. I know the places I am trying to have it record from are open and not blocked. I do not know what the problem is but there is no written fix for this. Read more

Reliable workhorse. Lives up to Sony's reputation.

It works! No zoom though. Converted my entire VHS collection to DVD. I have been unable to kill this machine after about 1200 custom DVD's burned. There was a later model the RDR-GX360 or some-such that was Sony's biggest fail ever. THIS is a fine machine that is still working years later. Would've given it 5 stars if it had zoom... Read more

A waste of money

I was trying step up to the new century by buying a DVD recorder. It doesn't really do anything. You can't copy your old VHS tapes to DVD because it's against the law and there is built-in copyright protection. So if you want your present VHS tapes on DVD, you'll just have to buy those movies again and again when the next new gadget comes out. And you cannot use it to record television shows as it has no tuner. This had been my primary purpose. I can rig it to run through a VHS recorder, but that limits the technology to 1990s output. Might as well just keep reusing my old VHS tapes. You could use it to make copies of a DVD that you personally made, but duh that's easy enough on a computer and would be more difficult to do on this contraption as it would need an additional DVD directly connected to it. I've had it for awhile and cannot come up with any purpose to own it. A big waste of money. Read more

Prompt delivery

The DVD recorder arrived in a very timely manner and was just as it had been presented. There were very minor signs of use and has performed very well in the last couple of weeks. I'm hoping it will last as long as my other RDR-GX257 that I purchased new a couple of years ago. Read more
