I researched hard and tried to justified buying OEM brand like my original LG filter (5231JA2002A) - afterall, its water I drink from everyday, why would i skim on the price- even if the original cost twice much right? But after looking at many manufacturers' websites (some even created blogs to explain why they are just as good as OEM) and reading many reviews - including the bad ones, i choose to take a chance. My experience: Just installed - very easy, took less than 30 sec to pop it in. Not a drop of water spilled. Clear instructions on paper.same thing like what everyone said - must run through and discard the initial couple of gallons of water to clear the carbon residue inside the filter. I used to live and work in developing nations where water sources is very questionable. Almost everyone, foreigners and locals, who could afford it (generic ones cost about US$15 for complete pack of 3) would have one of those triple water filtration system under their kitchen sink - we changed ours every 4 months despite package recommended 6-8 months (and if i delayed changing, i will cry when i see the state of the disgusting dirty filters and regret big time). Here in the US, compared to the rest of the world, there are so many regulatory boards that impose strict standards on treatment plants, water pipes, sampling tests etc ( my partner is a water engineer so i hear non stop of this). If you are in an area that uses well water or you think has higher pollutant, you could add the triple filtration system under your sink and link that filtered water through a hose to your water filter in your fridge but it is really not necessary for most households in US. After i found installation, fit, and the flushing part all normal, i began to wonder why the existence of many of those negative comments. It disturbs me to suspect fake reviews/paid competitor reviews to degrade a product so as to confuse and dissuade potential customers. I am so glad to receive Amazon's latest news (yesterday, Nov 10, 2016) on them stepping up to tighten regulations against such unethical practices so as to maintain a useful and informative platform for genuine users for the Amazon community. I have an LG LSC27921ST that I purchased a few years ago and the dreaded time of getting a new filter popped up on my fridge. Not only that we could tell that the ice and water just didn’t have the same crisp taste to it anymore. When looking online you can spend a fortune for an OEM product, $49.99 for one filter that lasts just six months. That to me that seems insane and close to price gouging. So, my wife and I were looking online for new filters and came across two products on Amazon that had decent reviews for the price. We opted to go for this product instead of the other one. I am overall happy with it, but I still have some issues. I wanted to wait a while to see how the filters work and any issues before writing this review and I am glad that I did. First off, it is very easy to actually install the filter to the fridge. The only thing that is a pain is the location of the filter, but that is no fault of the vendor who is supplying the filters, just the manufacture of the product. Just unpackage the filter from the bubble wrap and twist the filter up in the fridge. It took less than 5 minutes to actually install this filter. The next step is to run the water to make sure all air is gone and then I am done until six months passes to replace again. It has been about 3-4 months since I actually replace the filter and last Friday, I noticed that we didn’t have much ice. I didn’t think anything of it because since we moved into the new house the fridge just hasn’t been the same and had some small issues with ice maker. Well, later on, that night my wife was making some Iced Tea and she said there is no water coming out of the fridge. Sure enough, I pressed (and held) the water button and it never came out. Checked out the ice bin and nothing was in there. I checked online and saw a few tricks with my model to try if no water was coming out. None of those worked. The next step for me was removing the filter and trying again. I did this and water started coming out again. So, I put the filter back in and same issue, no water. I tilted the filter upside down (as was suggested in a thing I read), nothing came out. I tried one more time and then reinstalled the filter and then it started working. It has been a few days since this issue happened but has me a tad concerned as there is only two of us that live in the house, so we are not hitting the 300-gallon mark is just 3-4 months. I would hate to have to replace this filter before it was due, as I know the original one, I used longer than the gallon/time amount for it. I will just have to keep this in mind and see what happens moving forward Other than that, I really do love the price point only $22 for an 18-month supply of filters is a GREAT deal. Read more
