If you have a home espresso habit - then a tamping mat is something that you probably use daily. This is a good tamping mat - but it could be better. Pros: - Thick enough to provide padding while tamping and protects your counter top. - Has an edge protector that also keeps the mat from sliding - Has a portafilter position that works with both bottomless and spouted portafilters. (fits a standard E61 ) - As several different zones for organization that are big enough to hold a 58.5mm tamper/leveler/funnel Cons: - Arrived with a very strong chemical smell. Some of this went away with multiple washings and I expect it should mostly go away within a few days/weeks. - As a storage spot to hold a latte art needle. I know a lot of coffee junkies and none of them use a latte art needle. What would have been a lot more useful for most people is a slot to hold 1 or more puck screens. Not everyone uses a puck screen but enough people do that it would make more sense than a latte needle - The price point is just a bit high (especially since it does not have a slot to hold a puck screen) This is a decent tamping mat and it does it's job well. A slight adjustment to it's features and it's price could make it a great tamping mat. Read more

Though I realized it was not a tamping station, found this tamper and distributor holder to be too lightweight and flimsy to anchor those accessories, providing no benefit over just leaving the tamper, etc. on the countertop. Read more

I use this for much more than just tamping. It's also basically a catch-all surface that protects my counter from scratches. And also frothing/cinammon messes and yet I can easily run under the faucet and keep my cleaning time to a minimum. It hugs my countertop perfectly and gives me space to still operate the espresso machine behind it easily. The thickness of the silicone is more than adequate and strong enough so that I don't expect it to wear out with home use. It's so thick that it can actually stand on its side, which is how I store it, hugging the rear corner of the espresso machine. Using it could not be any easier.
