I'm a newbie. Watched my grandparents grow gardens and can vegies when I was young but always bought plants that were growing and potted. With our economy so screwed up and facing retirement I figured it was time to follow my grandparents lead and do something to insure we have food for the years to come. Flowers are pretty, but you can't eat them. There must be a learning curve. Bought a small greenhouse and growing lights. Only half of what I planted came up and then they curled up under the lights. :( OK. Seedlings don't want water from the top... And my little greenhouse feels dry inside. Put trays under the starter trays and filled them with water. Placed this unit on the lowest shelf in the greenhouse. And started seeds all over again. There still isn't moisture clinging to the sides of the greenhouse, but New Mexico is a very dry climate... That must be why Grandpa had irrigation to the garden and flooded everything. Think the moisture from all the trays under the seedlings is helping. The greenhouse is warm now. My eggplant came up in 6 days, my cucumbers are sprouting and I have baby lavender is every spot. (Well flowers are pretty, and the manure doesn't smell so good.) It seems to be making a big difference. The eggplants are getting a 3rd leaf today! It is definitely a learning experience, and the survival rate is improving! Wimped out and bought tomato plants. Can't live without fried green tomatoes! Perhaps by Christmas they will all still be alive. Does that mean I'll need a bigger greenhouse? Gotta keep trying. Can't give up. It's a journey. And I will succeed. Read more
Very flimsy, light weight, but mostly, it does not heat up. Do not buy this. Get an I Power, much better built and effective without any other heat source. Works like a charm , got the 20β X 48β on piece mat and draped it under and up the sides of the seedling pits. You put a clear plastic cover over the top of the pots, it cooks. Read more

Ok, so I've had this thermostat and heat mat combo for about a month now, and I have to say that is is better than I expected. I live in a northern climate, and without the heat mat I was not getting the humidity in the 1020 trays and domes that I need for my plants. By adding the mat and thermostat I fixed that issue literally overnight. I tested the accuracy of the thermostat by placing the probe in a room temperature environment next to a calibrated thermometer. After an hour the thermostat reading was within 1 degree of the thermometer. The thermostat will show the temperature C or F, and it is easy to select which one you want to use. It will show the temperature at the probe in tenths of a degree (70.1, 70.2, 70.3, etc) but can only be set in whole degrees (70.0, 71.0, 72.0, etc). The thermostat will turn on the heat mat when the reading is 1.1 degrees below the temperature you set. It will turn off at the temperature you set, but I have seen the temperature increase up to 1.5 degrees above your setting. In other words. if I have the thermostat set to 73 degrees, the thermostat will turn on at 71.9, will shut off at 73, but the temperature at the probe will increase up to about 74.5 degrees. I would say that this is a reliable product and I will buy again when I need more heat mats. Read more
I just started some trays of seeds in my basement. The temperature is about 65 degrees. I planted one tray with petunia seeds a whole week BEFORE these warmers arrived, and I planted a tray of the identical seeds the day AFTER these arrived and I had gotten the seed tray nice and warmed up in advance. I was SHOCKED that ALMOST ALL THE SEEDS IN THE HEATED TRAY GERMINATED IN JUST 3-5 DAYS, and MANY of the seeds in the first tray (now also on the warmer) STILL had not germinated! I remember last year how long it took for ALL my seeds to germinate in that 65 degree environment. I am now COMPLETELY CONVINCED, from my own personal experience, how VALUABLE these warmers are!! (And they draw just 15 watts.) See in the photo, the tray in the LEFT has fewer and smaller sprouted seedlings than the tray on the RIGHT. The LEFT tray was planted days before I got the warmer. The ones that were planted in warm soil are doing much better! I was surprised as to how much! Read more

I bought this to start my tomato plants when growing from seed. I am able to start my plants way before spring and have them ready by the last frost date. Easy to use. Read more
