It's taken me many years to finally break down and buy myself a quality knife set instead of purchasing oodles of individual knives. I'm finally glad I did. These are the best knives I have ever owned. The edges are sharp and cut like butter. In many cases I do not have to exert any effort to slice and chop food. There are 12 pieces in this set as follows: - one 3-1/2-inch paring knife - one 6-inch utility knife - one 8-inch carving knife - one 8-inch bread knife - one 8-inch cook's knife (a.k.a. chef's knife) - four 4-1/2-inch steak knives - one 9-inch honing steel - one pair of kitchen shears (they come in two pieces for cleaning; originally I thought they were broken) - one 13 slot storage block (this leaves two extra slots to store other knives of your choice) They are forged in Germany from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel. Hand washing is recommended and it comes with a limited lifetime warranty. I've been using these regularly with three wooden cutting boards I purchased specifically for these knives. I use to use a glass cutting board which damages knives so in order not to damage these knives, I made sure to purchase wooden boards. Although end grain cutting boards are better, I purchased edge grain instead. These knives are a dream to work with and I highly recommend them. At the beginning I was a bit annoyed that the storage block had two extra slots, but I learned to love that feature because I am able to store my Victorinox and other knife there and have gotten over the fact that they don't match. UPDATE August 27, 2019 - Today the scissors that came with this set broke. I used them once or twice per week. I am so disappointed. I did contact the company to see if they would replace them. Other than this, I use mostly the steak knives in this set. I have had to sharpen them as is typical and they are still going strong. I also use the other knives but only about once per month because I work with the steak knives mostly. I have also sharpened the other knives about two times since I have purchased this set. I am very satisfied with everything but the cutlery scissors. Also, note that I only used those scissors for cutting herbs and not chicken bone or anything hard, which makes this an even bigger disappointment. Received this set as a holiday gift, very happy with included knives. I am an experienced home cook and my old knives left a lot to be desired… finally, I got new ones. The knives arrived boxed and very well packed. Upon inspection, everything was without damage. The knives are very sharp, balanced, and a true pleasure to use. If you are not sure which one is best for a task at hand, watch Wusthof promos and other YouTube videos where professional chefs give great knife usage tips and food cutting demonstrations. They are very helpful. I am particularly happy a honing steel is part of this 9-piece set, ensuring your knives stay well-maintained and sharp. The acacia wood block is very stable due to its low profile. It is very polished and handsome. Make sure you shake out the freshness preservative packets stuffed inside (I used chopsticks to push them out of narrow spaces inside the block). Read more

Really excellent set of knives. I am by no means a professional cook, but I do like to purchase quality kitchen items that will last, and these fit the bill. Pricey for sure, but very well made and I expect to have them for decades with proper care. I attached a photo of what comes in the set since it doesn’t say in the description. You get 4 steak knives, 1 chef’s knife, 1 carving knife, 1 utility knife, 1 paring knife, 1 bread knife, 1 honing rod, 1 kitchen shears, 1 knife block. There are two extra empty slots on the knife block if you want to add to the set. Nicely balanced and feels good in your hand. Wusthof offers professional knife sharpening for $4 per knife, plus whatever it costs to ship them to Connecticut. I personally think that is a great price to keep them in great shape, and it should only need to be done once or twice a year as long as you hone often and depending on how heavily they are used. I think this particular set offers the best value while still getting a good variety of knives. I would absolutely recommend these as a gift or for your own kitchen. Read more
Was used to using mediocre knives. First day i brought these home I sliced the tip of my finger off cutting leeks, didn't even feel it. went on cooking and trying to figure out where the spots of red were coming from, I used white wine not red....
