A Must for Home Automation
We originally bought these GHome Smart Plugs to automate our outdoor lights and holiday inflatables, and about a year later, they’re still working perfectly with daily use. If you're looking for a reliable, affordable smart plug that actually does what it promises without constant resets or WiFi headaches, this is a solid choice. The main reason we bought these was to automate our outdoor lighting. Instead of having to manually turn things on and off, we use Google Home to control them. This includes about 400ft of string lights for our front and back yard. With automation set up, our exterior lights turn on at sunset and off at a scheduled time, saving us the hassle of remembering to do it ourselves. Once we saw how reliable and easy they were to use, we started using them for other parts of the house too. Now, we also have them controlling: *** Fish tank and reptile enclosure lights – Automatically turning on and off at set times to maintain a consistent day/night cycle for our fish and bearded dragon. *** Indoor lamps & lighting – We set up different schedules so certain lights come on in the evening, and others turn on and off while we’re on vacation to make the house look occupied. ***Seasonal decorations – They were perfect for Halloween and Christmas lights and inflatables, eliminating the need for timers or manually plugging things in. The ability to control each plug independently is a huge plus too. The dual-socket design lets you plug in two different devices, but you’re not stuck controlling them as a pair—you can turn one on while keeping the other off (this includes automations), which adds a lot of flexibility. Getting them set up was a breeze. They support both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, so we had no issues pairing them with our Wi-Fi network. The app isn't bad and most of the time will be able to sync automatically, just make sure you're connecting them to the right Wi-Fi frequency (they don’t support 5GHz), and you’ll be good to go. Once connected, you can pair the app with Google Home or your other automation. So far they've stayed stable—no random disconnections, no needing to reset them, and no annoying troubleshooting. Controlling the plugs from the phone is easy. You can: *** Turn devices on/off remotely – Great for when we forget to turn something off before leaving the house. *** Set schedules and timers – Works exactly as expected, allowing us to automate lights, appliances, and decorations. *** Voice control with Google Assistant & Alexa – Instead of opening the app, we just say, “Hey Google, turn on the outdoor lights,” and it responds instantly. After a full year of daily use, these plugs are still going strong. They’ve handled outdoor lighting, high-wattage inflatables, and fish tank equipment without any issues. Despite Florida’s humidity and temperature changes, they've remained consistent and reliable. The built-in surge protection is an added bonus, giving us peace of mind when plugging in more sensitive electronics. The fireproof shell and overload protection also make them feel like a safe and high-quality product. That said, if using in any sort of outdoor setting, you'd want to make sure it isn't in a spot that could get rained on. If you’re looking for a smart plug that actually works --- and without complicated setups --- this is a good option to get. It’s been working solidly for a year now, making our home more automated and convenient without requiring any thought on our part. Read more
