Wife and I were tired of the cheap and quickly dull knives and decided to purchase a complete upgraded set. You can easily spend a Thousand or more for a knife set. Could not afford that. I saffron this at and so far very pleased. The knives are very sharp, and each knife slot in the storage block has a built-in sharpening slot. Love that! We're loooving the set. Enjoy the always sharp and I do mean sharp. I sometimes try to avoid sliding them in along the sharpener to try and keep the blades. I don't think they truly at all need to be sharpened at all every time. Of course like others have said about the steak knives, I wish they had the searated edge all the way instead of just the first aprx 2 inches or so. Otherwise an awesome set. The block unfortunately gets some scratches from in and out use which shows the lighter color of the wood under the stain. Can always touch up but certainly no deal breaker. Quality set of knives. Very solid and super sharp. The built in sharpeners really are a great plus. I like that this is a 20 piece set too which has everything you need. A BIG BONUS for me about this set of knives is that each knife is labeled on the end of the handle (so you can actually read it) and can reach right for what you need instead of pulling each one out and trying to remember what and where they are. This is a great set of knives for comfort, balance and sharpness. All-around great value except for the fact that two of the knives are missing. I read the reviews that talked about this strange anomaly but decided to go ahead and take a chance because I'm a Caphalon fan. I'm glad I did, but I could never give this as a gift -- there are two empty slots in the block. I especially love the "chopper" knife (can't remember the Japanese name for it). It's multipurpose and almost makes the chef's knife unnecessary because it "rolls" very well when dicing onions, for example, the way a good chef's knife does. I don't really need steak knives, but these are sturdy and will be useful on rare occasions. So far, after a month of use, I'm impressed with the self-sharpening slots in the block. You can tell when you remove and replace the knives that they're being sharpened. I'm glad I made this purchase. I just wish those two missing knives were there. Read more
