I had a Black & Decker that was just as simple and it lasted for years. But when it made its final cup I thought I would just buy another. But the successor is now more complicated and not at all easy to operate. I purchased my coffee maker from Walmart (their price was better) and there it's called Mainstays. But as near as I can tell it's the exact same coffee maker. Unlike my recent B&D, the carafe for this coffee maker has markings on both sides which makes it easier to read and fill. The carafe slides easily in and out of the coffee maker, even when the coffee is brewing. Does it make a gourmet cup of coffee that would impress coffee aficionados? Probably not. Does it make a very decent cup of coffee for non-coffee snobs. Absolutely. And it is really easy to clean up after. Read more

I bought this because there's no black plastic in the holding tank or filter basket. The little drip-stopper is black, but although some coffee touches it briefly, it's not soaking in it. If it really bothers you, it's possible to remove the drip-stopper entirely, and the lid of the carafe, and it will still make good coffee, but you'll have to wait until the end of the cycle to pour your coffee. (Which you should anyway. ) Take that time to put away your clean dishes. Because it keeps the coffee nice and hot, but doesn't turn itself off, I'm trying to train myself to hold my mug in my right hand and pour with my left, so the ON/OFF switch is in front, reminding me to turn it OFF when I pour the last cup. I bought this because it was the only one I could find without black plastic parts inside. It’s very basic, the 30 second hold to withdraw pot while still brewing doesn’t work. The water indicator is on opposite side to the on/ off switch which is awkward , so you can only place it face forward. On one side there is a square hole with no purpose, so something seems to be missing. I wouldn’t buy it if you have any other choices.
