Read more

I ordered this laptop mainly because I found a good deal, and it has the latest Ice Lake Intel processor that I've been waiting for years to come out (there kept being delays.) I also wanted a GPU processor for gaming instead of relying on the integrated Intel GPU. I didn't want to spend $1000+ dollars either. So I found this one with the i7 CPU and Mx230 GPU and a 1080 screen, sold used through Amazon Services, LLC for $750. It turns out the cooling solution is really bad. They decided to cool the CPU and GPU with the same heatpipe, heatsink, and fan. I know what they were thinking... The GPU is 10W TDP and CPU is 10-15W, so why not cool both with the same device. Well, it didn't work very well. The whole bottom of the laptop warms up even when doing light web browsing like right now. Also the heat from the fan-heatsink blows right onto the screen and keyboard. And also the Mx230 isn't much better than the integrated GPU on the ice lake CPU. It's main advantage is the 4 GB of GDDR video memory but I immediately upgraded the 8GB regular CPU memory to 16GB dual channel. What they should've done was put an MX250 GPU in and a separate heatpipe/fan cooler for both the CPU and GPU. But they already have, it's called the Dell Alienware and sells for over a thousand dollars. So I guess I got what I paid for. I figured for gaming I'd just spend $400-500 and get a Playstation 5 when it comes out. Read more
