My wife likes a laptop with a really large screen. This does the job nicely. Previous one was over five years old and the screen was starting to fail. This one is a much better screen (brighter and higher resolution). Also lots of storage (so all our family photos fit) and includes a decent amount of very fast SSD for the OS and other program files. A really good fit for her. Read more
If a freelance gig hadn't demanded the capabilities of a PC, I likely would have been satisfied with my MacBook. But I needed to get an updated, fast PC, and this fit the bill for me. NOTE: I am not, and have no plans to be a gamer; this machine fits more home and business needs. Pros: - Large format, 1920 x 1080 resolution screen - bright, high contrast - With 16GB RAM, it's plenty fast now (unfortunately not directly upgradeable)...ask me again in 2024! :-) - Reasonably fast wifi (207.62Mbps download speed from across the house with a 500+Mbps plan) - With its 233GB SSD OS drive, it continues to boot up, shut down, and perform functions rapidly - With its 2TB SSD DATA drive, there is plenty of room for files, photos, and other information - 2x USB 3.1 Gen 1 - 1x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C with Data Transition Only - 1x USB 2.0 - 1x RJ-45 1x HDMI - DVD-R/W built-in - Compact, expandable 10/100 Ethernet LAN - Full keyboard, full size Cons: - Keyboard is not backlit and contrasts only moderately white against black - suggest a keyboard light - The battery does not last longer than several hours (I have not timed it); I am better off using it plugged in - It's heavy (over 6 pounds), but that's one price of all the pluses - The only fan vent is on the bottom toward the very back. Make certain it is clear or the computer will get hot Read more
Battery flunked the self-diagnostic test which caused Dell to essentially decline extended support. I replaced the battery myself and now it is working fairly well. Everything looked new out of the box (no repackaging that I could tell) so PCM(?) likely had no way of knowing. All seems well now. Read more
It is a 17 inch and I really like the bigger screen. I use this computer for inside house to do budget ,bills, shopping etc. I have a desktop in garage with 22 inch screen for crafting. I like the bigger 17 inch screen , it replaced a 15 inch screen laptop. So far no problems. Don't use it for gaming so that is N/A. Read more
I got this for 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor) - fine performance and very cost efficient. The battery lasts about 1.5-2 hours for that application. Read more
I was trying to return this for a replacement as it kept crashing. Only had it a month. Crashing started week after purchase. Amazon put me in touch with Dell to do tech support. I had the worst customer service ever. Dell said they were going to call, they said I needed to purchase a 99.00 software service they will email to me for a download. Nothing happened. No phone call. No link. I even called them and was on hold for 45 minutes while tossed between 5 different transfers and then hung up on. I called back and i was told the tech was going to call me back shortly. Never happened. Then i get an email today says they are refunding my software service since they couldnt connect with me. I'm furious. There was no contact except with my attempts. I told Amazon on May 31 that if Dell could not fix this laptop, i am sending it back for full refund or NEW replacement. The man on the other end said yes and ok. Now i see here online i do not have the option to return now as returning had an end date of May 31. I was not told this on the phone. Update: Amazon did help me return this. Step by step instruction. And as soon as it gets there I will get a full refund. I ordered a new one. But I do not know when I will receive it, which is sad as I need this for work. The gentleman I worked with was very kind and super helpful. Kudos to Shamar. Read more
