When I was doing research on what laptop I should buy to help with editing and rendering video I found a great refurb deal on these laptops. Paid around $380 and I also bought 2 pcs of 16gb of RAM for an easy upgrade. While it doesn't matter to me, it does not have a number pad so if you were planning on doing any data entry you may want to look elsewhere. It also doesn't have a ton of USB ports so be prepared with USB hubs. This laptop starts right up and allows me to produce 4k video with ease. The webcam isn't great, but if you just need something for meetings it should be fine. If you see this same refurb deal, I would scoop it up. For the price, it out punches just about anything else I could find. Read more

We bought this to replace an older HP laptop that was just getting slow. The price was good, shipping was quick, and the computer works very well. The only issue that occasionally occurs is that our older HP had a touch screen, and this one doesn't, so my wife and I sometimes find ourselves tapping the screen! We have no complaints about this little laptop. Read more

I like the laptop. Screen is big and clear, and the color quality is far better than my previous laptop. I was worried about the colors from some other reviews I had read but there's nothing wrong with them at all. Ryzen CPU is insane. The speed it manages to achieve while using such little power that the temperature never hits 60c makes the laptop well worth the price just on it's own. Bootup time from an encrypted disk is only a few seconds and all my programs launch in an instant. The touchpad is too big for it's own good I think. Any amount of flex from the sides or pressure on the front of the frame will cause it to click and stay clicked until the pressure is removed. Annoying when used on your lap which is what I bought it for. Other than that it's very responsive and works well. Battery life seems to be pretty good for web browsing and using discord. I don't watch movies or play games on it and things like that would cut off a couple hours. The wifi card included is the one main issue. It's garbage. It will not scan and connect for about 15 seconds after booting the laptop, and every few minutes the data rate will drop from 200~ mbit/s to 1mbit/s and stay there for a random amount of time from a couple minutes to over 10 and rebooting/reconnecting does not solve the issue. Even when it's working it's nowhere near as fast as my previous laptop's wifi (and it's 5 or 6 years old at this point). I knocked one star off for this because it's extremely annoying and interferes with my work. If replacement wifi cards werent so cheap I would have given three stars. Read more

1 month after my purchase, Amazon raise its price by $50. Everything is more expensive now :-( I bought this because of (1) the 16" 1920 display, it gives me a few more lines of text in VS Code than a 1080p display and with bigger characters for comfort when I use the laptop for more than 8 hours a day, (2) 8 cores and 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM and (3) no numeric keypad. While the display is rated 250 nit, it's not dark. I set mine at 75% brightness or about 200 nit. I dislike a numeric keyboad on a laptop and most laptops with >= 15" displays has numeric keypad. This is as close to a 16" Mac keyboard layout as one can get without buying a Mac. I wish more laptops would forgo the numeric keypad. Mac still has the best sound tho, even 2011 Mac has better sound than any 2022 non-Mac laptops. Read more

Straight out of the box, after charging for over an hour, the laptop wouldn't power up. Dead! The only light seen was the LED light by the charging port. Had to go on the Dell website and call for technical assistance. After about 10 minutes of trouble shooting it finally came up. Not good at all, seeing that this is a brand new laptop. The fingerprint scanner doesn't work either, keep getting an error message. Says it's not accessible. So I'll probably have to trouble shoot to figure it out. I'm hoping that I can get at least 5 years from this machine, but at this rate, I'm skeptical. Not at all pleased with this machine; should've gone with the Dell Inspiron 15 5515. Now THAT is a great machine!!! I purchased that one for my daughter in April, and set up was a breeze. **UPDATE OCT 13, 2022** The laptop works as it should. No further power issues encountered. After troubleshooting with DELL Technical Support for the non-functioning fingerprint scanner, I was advised that the motherboard and the Palmrest assembly needs replacing. All upgrades were done, and the fingerprint scanner still doesn't show up in BIOS. Apart from this issue, the machine works fine. I'm giving it 2 stars because of the issues encountered. The DELL Support team provided excellent service, I'm happy with the service they provided Read more

I had read a review that disparaged the screen on this Dell, but I am very pleased with it. The fingerprint reader is in an awkward place and I have already disabled it, since it was a hit and miss thing if it would work. But everything else works well. It is not a fancy looking laptop but it is a great choice. (new comment) One question I couldn't answer right away was about the battery life. I am happy to say it is no doubt the longest lasting battery of any of my previous laptops. I am quite pleased. Read more

The laptop is ok. It’s crashes very little. The mouse pad is horrible. It needs to be in full light otherwise it does not want to work. Get yourself a wireless mouse. Read more
