helps block the wind, stays in place, and doesn't bunch up. it actually keeps me so insulated, I noticed my hearing was a little worse and I had to crank the volume on the radio. worked great in temps below -10 F, -30 F windchill. this hood has an added panel instead of just being "all one sewn piece" that you can pull up to cover your chin, mouth, and nose. the best part of that is, when you want to pull the panel section down, there is some overlap in the panels and it will stay in place. when you pull that panel down, it sort of folds over, and won't keep trying to ride up around your chin and mouth. note that I chose the warmer/insulated style. it is only slightly flexible and not very stretchy because the fabric is thick. the fleece inside is smooth, not itchy. it fit great under a second beanie and was warmer than just a hood for sure. I ride my motorcycle to work at least 3/4 times a week. Works well for those cold rises. Unfortunately one size doesn't fit all! It would be nice if they had different sizes and/or a little bit of elastic around the eye part. The forehead rides high and loose on me. Read more

I ride motorcycles year round and in my state it snows a lot. On days where it's not snowing I ride and this balaclava is WARM! Fits perfectly on me and I wear a 7 5/8 hat so for people with smaller heads, I'd look for another alternative. The interior material is soft and not the best breathable but gets the job done. Just remember if you're using this for skiing, your goggles will fog up if you're breathing through your nose. Same with riding motorcycles. Read more
