Have only had the knives a few days but they are the sharpest knives I have ever owned only time will tell how well they hold their sharpness. You just need to be careful on cutting and handling the knives so you do not slice into your hand because they are so sharp They are attractive on our kitchen cabinet with the butcher block knife holder. The media could not be loaded. I am very impressed with this generic forged kitchen knife set. The workmanship is very good and you can tell these were precision machined and expertly sharpened and honed. The manufacturer claims these are forged from German steel, and I can at least say that functionally these rival my 10 year old hand crafted Henckells German kitchen knives, which is pretty amazing. The overall craftsmanship and quality obviously isn't as high as the Henckells knives, but for the price, these do the job of professional chefs knives for much less. Every knife came razor sharp and cut through paper like butter (with the exception of the bread knife and steak knives, of course, due to the serrations). The knife block is a well made wooden block, heavy with built in knife sharpeners. The biggest letdown on this set is the paint on the knife block. It smells like nasty chemicals that don't smell like something I would ever want making contact with my food. I thoroughly hand washed the whole knife block inside and out with dish soap and warm water, with pipe and bottle cleaners, but I couldn't get the chemical odor to go away. Hopefully it will dissipate after airing out for a few weeks, but I am concerned about whatever this coating is being in contact with knives that touch raw food. Minus 1-star for this oversight on the knife block coating odor. Overall, if the odor thing doesn't concern you, this is a surprisingly good professional quality set that could be a good option for your kitchen. Read more
