I've used this particular fan for about 25 years. The new ones are as good as the old ones. This fan doesn't generate a lot of wind speed, so it may seem underwhelming. But, try moving your hand around in front of it, and you'll feel that it moves air through a large volume of space at once. It's also much less noisy than a typical box fan, with a darker sound. These 2 factors make this the ideal fan for supplementing an air conditioner. Put the fan on a small table near the AC and you can have it direct cold air at a distant spot. I have mine up on a TV table aimed at my back where I sit writing this review. I can feel the cold air on me just like I could if I were directly in front of the AC. So, I'm able to have both fan and AC in the back of the room, and I can sit and work far away from their noise while still getting direct cooling. In this use case, I think the fan is 100% worth it. If you're using this for direct cooling (like having it next to you as you sleep), it will also work but you can get higher airflow from a shop style fan. I recommend using it to move air from an AC as I described, or put it in a window/door to exchange air quickly with the outside. When you use it like that, you'll see the value of this fan. I've bought my second one ever after writing this review (gave the one from 25 years ago to my parents) and I'm glad to say that this is still a good and well-priced design. This fan can turn a stuffy loft space into a nice comfy place to sleep! Read more

I just bought this to replace the exact same fan I bought more than 15 years ago. The new one is EXACTLY like the old one, and that says everything. How many products in this world are good enough to be sold for 15 or more years with absolutely no change? That is a singular achievement. This is, I believe, the best floor fan you can possibly get. For more than 15 years, it worked flawlessly for me. There were times in summer when it would run weeks without ever being turned off. It's quiet, it has three excellent settings and it can be reliably tilted to any angle you need. Even in winter, you can aim it at the ceiling to get that warm air moving and circulate it throughout the room. Mine failed because the plastic knob that controls the switch finally just crumbled into an unusable mess. Using pliers to turn it off and on doesn't really feel safe. I guess I could jury-rig something, but that's more hassle than I need for a simple fan. Other than improving that switch knob, I can't imagine anything else they could do to make it better. Apparently, neither could the manufacturer! At my age, this is a product that's surely going to outlive me! Read more

Purchase approximate/Review Date: 9/28/2025 The price felt affordable. I have "efficient" AC units that, while efficient, don't seem to cool like they should. Coupled with that, the main space is a serious of "rooms" in that they're mostly open but not entirely. The result is that air gets trapped in a room with the AC unit instead of flowing to the rest of the house. My hope was that this fan would address it at a reasonable price, and boy does it! Air Movement: I put the fan on the lowest setting and upclose it kind of gives the impression that it's not moving much air, but from a distance the air movement is a lot. Noise: I can see why some reviews debate whether it's a loud or quiet fan. Part of that perspective is going to be based on comparisons to other fans. Part will be based on setting. Part will be based on other ambient noises and sensitivity to noise. My wife is sensitive to noises and her response to the low setting is "it doesn't make me immediately want to kill it, which is a positive. It's pushing air and it does make noise though. If you're confused by the variations in reviews, I think it's because it really depends on how you're looking at noise and the rest of the "noise" environment. Many other things may be louder than it is. In complete silence, it will stand out. The size is larger than I expected. Left to right it's about 26" and top to bottom it's about 25". I had planned on using in a crawlspace in the winter to circulate the air, but this size makes it a no go to use how I wanted. The finish is mostly nice. Rounded edges and a nice look... except the handle which has two different pieces of plastic sloppily put together and sharp edges. I really miss quality built items, but this doesn't seem bad overall. The control is located on the back of the fan. It's a knob with three settings starting high to low. It's not my favorite location, but it works and engineering wise makes sense. All manually controlled, not remote. I think that's obvious but I thought I'd point it out. Honestly, I appreciate things that just work without unnecessary expense/features/ways it can break down. The fan swivels so you can aim it up or down. I had thought about using the base to mount to a wall, but I'd need to drill holes for that and while I think I could make it work, I decided it'll work best sitting on the floor or a table . Overall, I'm happy with the product. It moves air, it's relatively quiet, it's providing MUCH more airflow and movement than our ceiling fans (and also quieter as those fans have issues and I haven't torn them down to look at them and fix them yet). The price is reasonable for what is delivered and I FEEL like the quality is a little greater than the price, even with my complaint of the handle. You might feel differently if you handle the fan a lot, and I'd recommend a cloth wrap to prevent cuts from the sharp plastic edges of the handle. Hopefully this fan lasts. At some point I'll likely update to measure the energy usage, but I'm currently busy doing other devices this year, so it'll have to wait. Fans are generally low energy though. Read more

Nice fan, big as a box fan. I like this because you can tilt it up or down. Moves air pretty good and it’s not real loud. But where the fan connects to the base is thin and it can break, not as easily but can break. Fixed both side with a plastic weld (which I got here at Amazon) still hanging in there moving air Read more
