★★★★★

Great glove for what it’s intended for.

Ive owned a pair if these for about 2 years and I have used them as my primary welding gloves. They’ve been my favorite welding gloves ever. I came here to buy new ones and saw the bad reviews and thought I’d offer an alternate opinion because Ive loved these. Sure they are not leather welding mits, but the gains these offer in terms of dexterity are well worth the slightly less protection compared to leather weld mitts. These are meant for protection against radiant heat and arc flash - like the SFI cert says - expecting a glove designed to protect agsinst radient heat to protect against abbrasion like the other reviewers is silly. Buy the correct glove for your use case. These have real leather palms and the carbon x fabric has stood up well to the welding abuse ive put them through. Pic is after 2 years of welding use, using the left hand as the weld gun support so it gets blasted with heat and red ants. Read more

Much better than the military issue nomex gloves

James SpicerApril 2, 2013✓ Verified purchase

I am an ag pilot, and I've always worn nomex gloves while flying. Problem is, I generally wear out a couple of pair in a season of hard flying. I've never liked the fact that the palm of the glove only has leather, and no nomex underneath between the leather and the skin of my hands. So, I started looking for an alternative this year. I wanted something with very good resistance to heat and flame, but also something with a short cuff, unlike the gauntlet style of the military gloves. I ran across the Mechanix Wear CarbonX gloves and they appeared to have everything I was looking for. So far, they have not dissapointed. They are comfortable, even on hot days. The fit is superb, and the glove appears to be very well made. It remains to be seen how they hold up through the entire flying season, but so far, I am very satisfied! Read more

Not for a serious race mechanic

Evan A. FrankFebruary 1, 2011✓ Verified purchase

I bought these in preparation for the Rolex 24 at Daytona because I needed a glove that was fire-resistant and versatile enough to use for other tasks at the track. They are leather lined with Carbon-X on the palm and most of the fingers and mostly Carbon-X on the back of the hand. Unfortunately, their durability fell far short of what was required for the pits. The seams between the plain Carbon-X and leather/Carbon-X in the thumb area came apart after roughly 10 hours of use. It was not the stitching that broke; the Carbon-X material simply tore. It seems to be much too thin for the application. I do not feel that I was abusing these gloves in any way; most of what I was doing was moving tires around. I have a one inch tear on each thumb and a smaller tear on the heel area of the glove (below the thumb). I will be contacting Mechanix on this. Other than the durability issues, the gloves are very nice. If you will be using these rarely or gently they are fine gloves. If you are a race mechanic you will be lucky to get one weekend out of them. Read more

Not that durable

Product fits quite well and is overall comfortable but both times when I've purchased these, they develop rips in the flexible fabric, esp around area between the thumb and pointer finger Read more

I work as a rescue team member for a local dirt racetrack, and these gloves hold up the best of any I have used in the past. Love the dexterity, comfort, and durability. Read more
