Great MP3 Player that's not just for kids

I got this after trying a much smaller and cheaper MP3 player that I had to wire to my wireless Soundcore headphones. And that because my iphone's memory was so full that I could not even update the iphone b/c not enough available memory. This is a VERY NICE MP3 PLAYER, as dense/heavy as a comparably-sized small cellphone. It says "for kids" but it's great for me and I haven't been a kid in a very long time. It was easy to upload a lot of music from my PC to its internal memory. The battery lasts and lasts on a charge. It easily paired via bluetooth with my noise-canceling Soundcore headphones and the sound quality is much better than my previous cheap-o player. It has PLENTY of memory even without an SD card but I do plan to get a card for it as well as a case. It comes with a nice protective case that it fits into but no screen protector. No intentionally but I did drop it a few times and it was fine. I have not used it to watch videos or connect w Spotify or other services. I see other reviewers have concerns about security but I can't speak to that. Best not to connect *anything* to networks that can't be trusted though I did try to connect to American Airlines inflight WIFI to see if I could view a movie or show. The screen is certainly adequate for watching vids and has very good resolution. I couldn't get that to work. But for my purposes, just listening to music, this is perfect. And, yes, after deleting most of the music from my iphone I was able to install the IOS update. Read more

need to be a lil tech savvy to install apps on the device

did get this to install a bird app on the device for an Amish (yes some of them can use electronics). the device failed to install the app with no useful error messages. it has no logging ability to find out why an app does or doesnt install. the support was fairly quick at contacting me to assist but in the end they had no clue. personally i dont think i would get a device like this that is so heavily crippled and outdated (olddddd android OS). google play isnt available and you have to use custom apps to install apps (tried to install google play and failed). if you want to just use the device to play music it should work just as it is but honestly a used phone with no phone plan would be better IMO Read more

Too cheap

Too slow and lags. Took a crap after 3 months and wont even turn on anymore. Battery dies quick, storage compacity is ok. Should have just gotten the better one although idk if it would have been any better. Read more

First device had problems, replacement was really solid.

Please see Update at the bottom: This is really difficult to write a review for. I'm middle aged and used CD players in High School and went through several generations of MP3 players. The idea of having one that has permanent storage that's only used for music is cool and I have enough content on MP3 that I like to listen to, I was interested. So in terms of what you are used to for MP3 players, it's good. You can transfer music on it easily, remove content, and navigation is easy enough. The interface is what you're used to with your Android phone, it's not like the proprietary players of the past. It charges up quickly and I haven't needed to charge it in a while. On those counts, it's great. The wifi works pretty much as expected and there's a slot for an expansion card so you can easily transfer music back and forth on a card when you need it. Having 512 GB of storage only for audio is cool as I don't have to fill my phone up. It's pretty durable and I couldn't find any custom cases for it, but no biggy. On the downside, I can't get it to pair with ANYTHING Bluetooth. I've tried. From S**** buds to A*** Airp*** to several different off brand ones, nothing. I can't even get it to pair with my Bluetooth speakers, all of which are high end or super high end. Nothing. That's super frustrating. The wifi does work but it was a challenge and it took a few times. I had to fight the storage card being read and it seemed weird b/c I'd see it mount and then it would freeze. Now, here's the strange part, that is a bit troubling. When I had set it up originally, I was at my office. I came home and transferred a bunch of old files onto the storage card and inserted it. All good. Everything seemed to work at that point. Later that night I saw a bunch of monitoring alerts on my router showing a bump up in outbound traffic. I investigated and thought maybe it was a phone backup or something. Then I looked at the traffic pattern and signatures and it was my music files. Ok, that's strange but again, didn't think much of it, probably just a backup but then realized, I didn't set up any accounts on this device. There was nowhere I set up for it to backup to. Then just to test something, i put a bunch of PDFs and RTS files, some code files (.py and .cs) on the card and inserted it. It was uploading those too. I don't know what that's all about but it feels, problematic. A backup I understand if there's someway to get the backup and then restore later, but I don't see any way that's the case. I can't tell past that if its an issue or what's being done with it, but I'm hard pressed to think of a good reason that wouldn't be disclosed so YMMV. UPDATE - 03.24.2025 In all fairness, I was highly critical of the unit I had and didn't try to contact the manufacturer to resolve the issues I had. Well, they had read the review and immediately reached out. I've had that happen when writing reviews that were low and often times people just want to get you to change the review. However this was different. They first offered to immediately ship me a replacement b/c the bluetooth issue was an indication it was defective. They offered to have the original one fixed as well. They had explained that there was a backup feature built into the device that does keep protected backups of your account and walked me through it and I'm comfortable there's nothing nefarious with it, it was just a feature that was partially implemented (without registering you can't really have a mechanism to get your restored items if you need it but that's operable now). More than anything, I was really impressed, really impressed with how they handled everything and how supportive they were. If you have any problems, I'd encourage you to reach out to them, they really were great. Read more
