Arrived so quickly. It arrived 2-3 hours after i ordered it which was great because my current coffee maker suddenly quit working that same morning. It was a Mr. Coffee 12-cup that lasted for 13 years so I figured that i got my money's worth. So I thought I would go with Mr. Coffee brand again. Anyway, this time I decided to try the 5-cup because I no longer need a 12-cup as I now live alone. I've only had it for 3 days but so far I love it. It works great. I don't like warm coffee and this little coffee makes makes hot coffee, but not too hot to burn you. It stays hot until you turn it off. It is not programmable but that is not a feature that I'm crazy about anyway. The handle on the carafe isn't too small, just the right size. The carafe has a wide opening which makes it easy to clean and the glass carafe is just the same glass as a 12-cup, only smaller. The basket uses the 7" filters which I was already using in my old unit so I didn't have to buy new ones. I don't like the cone filters and I'm glad this one doesn't require them. I especially like that it doesn't take up as much counter space because I have a small kitchen and don't have much counter space to spare. It doesn't brew as fast as a large coffee maker but that is no problem for me. I turn it on when I get up, then go get dressed. By the time i get back to the kitchen, it is finished. It does have the pause feature if you are in a hurry. So far, I'm very pleased with this little coffee maker and don't share any of the negative reviews. I did run plain water through the unit before making my first pot of coffee to clean it through and through. There was no bad plastic smell, no smell of any kind, and no bad taste of any kind from my first brew of coffee as others have mentioned. I don't grind my own coffee beans but I use Folgers pre-ground coffee, so i don't know anything about grinding your own beans and how this would be any different. i know some people are really picky about that kind of stuff, but I am not. I am more concerned about convenience. If you like stronger coffee, just add more grounds or less water, or both as there is no adjustment on this unit to make the coffee stronger or weaker. As I have only had it for 3 days, I don't know anything about the lifespan of this unit, but so far, I am very pleased and loving the little coffee maker. I will update the review if it doesn't last long. It is perfect for small kitchens, dorm rooms, etc., and is very light wright. It looks just like a 12-cup coffee maker, only smaller, without lots of bells and whistles- just a basic coffee maker. ( I've had 2 Keurigs in the past and neither one lasted more than a year- too expensive to keep replacing every year. I won't buy anymore of those) This little unit is perfect for me. Glad I found it and hope it last a long time. Read more

Absolutely no problems. I live alone so the 5 cup size is perfect; it lasts me 3 days. I put sweetnlow and creamer in the whole pot, and put the glass carafe in the refrigerator. No having to prepare one cup at a time if you're the only one drinking it. Read more

Great little coffee maker. I’m single with limited space and it’s consistently been a great little workhorse for a very fair price. Tried French press’s for a while, but for so much work I could never manage to even make a decent cup of coffee. This always makes me a decent cup of java, quickly, with minimal effort-and the coffee is ready in mere minutes to consume which matters when rushing to get ready to work. I also always use good beans but, as good a cook as I am, I’m not a barista. It’s lightweight, compact, and the durability of this brand- consistent. When I fill it to the brim there is minor spillage so I do pour that first cup over the sink to avoid it. if I make one cup, no problem. Simple choice-black. Black is the color of coffee- less harmless spots to wipe off the white model. Read more

Mr. Coffee meet Mr. Barista! I have tried many types of coffee makers and unless you are a coffee 'snob' you, the mere mortal, can make the best cup of coffee possible with this little Mini. Here are some tips to remember to maximize taste with minimum effort: 1. Your coffee taste will depend primarily on the coffee you buy and how you keep it fresh. Holding that aside this maker (others have feature this also) has a cutoff valve so if you start making coffee without the carafe in place, no coffee will flow and it stays in the basket. This is good, assuming you want only 1-2 cups (my amount). If you start the maker without the carafe the coffee will undergo more extraction. Try different times before you put the carafe in to start draining the brewed coffee and use your favorite time delay. 2. Storing coffee you buy is very important. The best way by far, is to pick up a cheap rechargeable vacuum sealer (with reusable bags). When you buy coffee immediately open the bag (I cut off the top) and fold the top over and place the bag in a vacuum sealable bag and vacuum it to tightness. Your coffee will last months in the cabinet (for longer put it in the freezer but always let it heat to room temp. before opening the seal). To use it open the seal, take out what you need, reseal immediately and pump out the air again. takes about 1 min.. This is better than any coffee canister, including the new ones that auto pump out air, because the bag fits against the coffee so all air is removed. Follow the above ... and you are now a master barista!!!! Read more

Awkward to use. Top opens right to left instead of front to back. Water level is visible on one side only. No auto shut-off. Nice carafe. Read more
