I have wanted (but not really needed) a MagSafe car mount charger for my phone since I upgraded about a year ago. I am not someone who can justify spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a phone, so I pretty much only upgrade when I am absolutely forced to and get the cheapest still-supported one I can. So that means I've only had my iPhone SE 3rd Generation with a MagSafe case for about a year (maybe less). I have a couple MagSafe charging pucks for the house and just a plain USB cable and cigarette lighter USB adapter for the car for the very rare case I needed to charge my phone in the car. But I recently replaced the broken vanilla stock radio/CD player with one of those Android head units with GPS and CarPlay and all that. It's set up to pair to my phone for data for Waze and for hands free calls and all that and so driving is a drain on my phone battery it didn't used to be and a MagSafe mount/charger has become more of a need. This kit comes with both a clip for vent mounting the charger and an articulated base you can suction to your window or dash with included sticky plate, depending on how you want to mount. I was pretty certain I wanted to dash mount and chose this kit because it included one, although I have not found a place I am really satisfied with putting it, so I will likely end up using the vent mount after all. I don't think this is the fault of the kit, however. It has plenty of degrees of freedom and the arm even telescopes out to extend it several inches. It's just that where I always thought I would want it now seems to be in the way of the Android head unit a bit, I don't want to obscure my windshield at all, and I don't really need to interact with it except maybe to complete a fast food order on the way to the restaurant that I already started before leaving. Otherwise I think the dash mount would be just fine. The sticky plate is like one that came with a (now recycled) GPS unit I had and was stuck to my dash, but bigger, and the suction cup also seems to have some adhesive so I suspect it would hold quite well. I tested charging with my USB 3.0 cigarette lighter adapter and with each of the two USB 2.0 ports on the Android head unit. It pulled about 0.6A from one of the Android ports, 1A from the other, and I was able to pull 1.5A from the cigarette lighter adapter--pretty much the most I have been able to get from any MagSafe chargers with my iPhone SE (for which a 15W charger is more than enough, as I believe the phone is maxes out at 7.5W). I find the magnet to be quite strong--perhaps even a bit too strong for my liking to be perfect. You obviously don't want the phone to fall off when you hit a speed bump or pothole, but I'd also like to be able to pull it off without changing the mount orientation too much, and I do find myself readjusting it somewhat more than I'd expected after I detach an reattach my phone. The included USB‑C to USB‑A cable worked perfectly with the USB A port in my center control panel. Installation of the vent mount was so easy that I didn't even need to look at the instructions. The mount comes with two installation options: a vent clip and a 3M adhesive dashboard base. I chose the vent clip. It took only a minute to figure out placement and install it. My 2018 Ford Escape has vertical vent slats instead of the typical horizontal ones, and the clip still attached securely without damaging the vent. It holds firmly and offers a stable, non‑slip grip. I mounted it on the center passenger vent so I wouldn’t risk losing any airflow on the driver side. My passenger seat is usually either empty or occupied by me, so I didn't feel bad about potentially reducing someone else's airflow. It sits at the perfect height for GPS. The 360° rotatable ball joint makes it easy to tilt and angle the phone exactly where I need it for safe navigation and hands‑free use. The kit includes everything you might need: the magnetic charger, vent clip, 3M adhesive base, magnetic ring for non‑MagSafe phones, and a user guide. I didn’t need the adhesive base or magnetic ring, but it’s nice that the full setup is included. After using this mount, my only regret is waiting so long to switch to MagSafe.
