I love the butterfly mechanism! I was initially concerned about it being dangerous or difficult to use and I would botch my legs but it ended up being quite simple and you do get a very close shave. I did not break out. This is my first issue with all razors and I love how hygienic this one is and that despite shaving against the grain I have not suffered a single pimple. I did nick my knee and shave a couple of goose bumps off, nothing serious, just a trial and error of adapting to how very little pressure you need to get the closest shave ever. Literally no more pressure than the weight of the blade is needed. You just have to guide it. The cost of the blades is another very attractive factor. I am happy with this switch, worth every penny. So far I really like this razor. It is made well and feels very comfortable.. My issue is the razor blade itself. I am not a fan of the Shark razor blades that come with this, so I switched to Astro after reading such good reviews.. still I am not sure I am in love with this type of razor on a whole. I am very careful shaving and use shaving cream, yet I still get little knicks and still have to shave just as often as I did with a regular razor that I didn't get knicks with. I really love the concept of this razor, but think I may just end up going back to the Gillette Mach 3 after all. Read more

I decided to try a safety razor because of the expense of disposable razors/blades. I would find myself going to far too long without replacing my razor just because I didn't want to spend the money. I somehow came across the idea of a safety razor and decided to give it a try. It seems like everything I read made it sound like you would injure yourself if you weren't really careful, so I was a little nervous. I don't know what all the hype is about- I just shaved like I would with any other razor (in the shower) and didn't cut myself at all. The razor is very sturdy and changing blades is super easy. I ordered a sample pack of some blades that are supposed to be really sharp so I can determine which brand of blades I like best. With the large packs of blades only costing 10 to 15 cents/blade, I will be able to change blades frequently. Read more

I like how lightweight it is, but the blades provided don't last very long. After browsing around for other brands, Parker blades apparently last the longest. I read several reviews about getting such a close shave that you dont have to shave again for days, and that was not the case for me. I get maybe 4 shaves in before having to replace the blade. Also, I do not think there is a difference between the "lavender" and "pink" because I ordered lavender and the one I recieved is pink. It is easy to use and I have yet to cut myself. I wanted an alternative to disposables since they aren't very eco friendly, so I am sticking with this razor. Read more

My husband switched to safety razors months ago, but I didn't realize that women could use them too and I never thought one blade would shave as well as the 4 and 5 blade razors I had been using. I was wrong. I have never owned a razor that shaves my legs so well. No hint of stubble and they are so smooth with no ingrown hairs. There is a bit if a learning curve so follow the directions that the seller emails to you and don't press down hard like you had to with the light plastic razors. This is a beautiful all metal razor and the weight makes it easier to control. I did press too hard at first and nicked myself, so take your time, let the razor's weight do the work. I will never go back to those cheap plastic razors and their expensive replacement blades. Read more

Edit: it's now rusted. Yes, it's good, but as others have said please use it carefully and slowly(If you treat it like a regular razor you will injure yourself). I use one blade a week if I shave daily. The blades that it arrived with are great. This is far more cost effective than buying disposables. Seriously, the shave is very close--buy it! Worth $30 easily. All of the disposables I bought are now reserved for overnight trips only. I use alba botanica very emollient shave cream with this. Read more

I bought this razor because I have horribly sensitive skin and any type of hair removal, especially shaving, would leave my skin burning, red, and bumpy, and then in 2-3 days I'd have all of the ingrown hairs to deal with. Shaving would hurt my bikini area and lady bits so bad I was scared people would think I had an STD. I reached a breaking point and decided to give a safety razor a try before saving up the money for laser hair removal. This has made all the difference in the world and I'm so disappointed i didn't try it sooner! Now on the first try, I hated this razor. I hated it the second time too, because after I bled all over my shower my legs were still very prickly. Shaving with a safety razor requires a very different technique than a disposable razor. I was holding it at a completely wrong angle, pushing down, and making long strokes. Watch a YouTube video on it first, it seems basic but those extra 5 minutes are worth it. I would recommend this razor to anyone, especially if you have sensitive skin. And if you don't like it the first time, I'd urge you to try at least 2 more times to see if it gets better. I still have trouble getting a very close shave and some irritation on my very sensitive areas and spots with a lot of curves, but it is so mild that it only lasts an hour, and I no longer have any razor burn at all on my legs, plus the closest shave I've ever had! I'm finally able to shave my legs more than once a week too, which is so nice in the summer. I haven't tried new blades yet, just the ones in the box, and I've been using a shave brush with Coates rose shave cream for sensitive skin. I also was worried about bringing razor blades in my bag while traveling since I just had a 3 week backpacking trip and many flights between places, but I kept the blades in their wrapping, in the razor box, in my toiletry bag, and had no problems getting through airport security.
