it gave my ps3 room to breath and at the same time i can put all of my games on it with room to spare. it was so very easy to install. highly recommended! since adding this hard drive to my ps3 it has given me way more memory and it has been working like a champ. Arrived before promised as a replacement drive for a two year old laptop. Worked fine and installed without problem. Finding many newer SATA drives have a shorter life than old PATA drives. Perhaps the mass production or the higher capacity crammed into the same physical space. At least they are very inexpensive Read more

Installed in a MacBook that had a dying HDD. Had to remove the side pegs that help harness the HDD in the Mac, you need a very small Torx bit to do this. Otherwise it fired up great, once it was formatted it took the OS well and is running great! I docked this 2 stars as it appears the HDD I received was removed from another device, it looked used. There was a sticky residue left on the outside of the HDD that looks like someone removed a sticker, and didn't do a decent job to clean it up. I am skeptical about this being new or used, and because of that I don't know what kind of life this will have. Hoping for the best and many years of use! Read more

This may not sound like a big deal, but the day it should have been delivered was on Monday. I got it on Friday. Packaging was top notch. I have ordered many Seagate HDDs from Amazon and have been very passionate about the product and its reliability. However, today my confidence was broken when I received the Seagate Momentus 5400 250gb Sata from a supplier of Amazon. After enclosing it in a Vantec 2.5" HDD Enclosure, I tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 onto the hard drive. However, after more than 5 minutes of installing the program, the drive suddenly stopped spinning while the LED light on the external enclosure went out. I tried this around 6 times with the same result at the five minute mark. I went even so far to see if a drive letter could be viewed on a Windows XP machine. I am pretty sure that it is not a defective drive enclosure since Ubuntu was able to produce a drive letter and also fully exhibit technical information on the Seagate hard drive using an outboard application called disk usage. With this evidence before me, it may appear that the HDD was damaged during shipping since it arrived in a medium size bubble envelope with little or no padding. It was shipped through the USPS which has a great reputation for mishandling delicate electronic components. All of my previous HDDs directly from Amazon arrived in first rate corrugated boxes that unquestionably protected the device until it was openned. Also, the device may have been used or returned for being non-funtional. Anyhow, I think I learned my lesson which is to purchase all future HDDs from Amazon directly rather than a reseller or Amazon business partner. Amazon's outstanding return policy certainly reduces my disappointment with this purchase. However, waiting for a replacement drive is again a test of patience and customer loyalty. Read more
The product itself is good quality and easy to install but it comes without any documentation or instructions..... or boot disk to aid installation. We were at a lost for what to do after installing. A basic boot disk or operating system on the disk would have helped a lot. We were able to replace the drive easily and install Linx but the drive came without any drivers to run the CD/DVD, or wireless internet. My other laptops I have boot disk. This died suddenly (original). Some document or drivers would have helped a lot. Read more
The title says it all...even though this is listed as a Laptop hard drive, I put it in a system I built for a buddy. While there are much larger drives out there, this wasn't really an issue for this particular system...economy and dependability were, and that is what I found with this particular Seagate drive. At 5400 rpm, it runs quieter, and should last longer. This is in a system used to check the commodities and email twice a day, and it does this really fine. This unit arrived quicker than anticipated, and I was able to deliver the system sooner than promised...win/win situation for all. Read more
