Background: In 2009 I bought a trainwreck of a building circa 1900s, 5k sq ft. Existing illumination was from a hodgepodge of F40T12, F96T12, and Edison base ceramic fixtures mounted directly on surface mounted junction boxes. Converted everything to (mostly) T8 and added a bunch (some of which were scrounged T8). Ten years on I began looking ahead. Florescent bulbs have a definite lifespan and dim over time (and frankly I waited too long). The first box of ten was indeed shatterproof as the tubing is some polymer (likely polycarbonate, given its tendency to scratch/scuff.... they were slightly scuffed as they came out of their individual boxes.... but no big deal....) This year I hit a crisis point with florescent bulb (and perhaps) ballast failure after ten years, so I ordered a box of 50 using my primary account and 50 using my secondary account with the intention of converting everything possible to single ended power t/8/t12 LED. Welll....Got two boxes of 50 and the boxes have been beaten up and retaped at least twice. The current product uses glass tubes, which is a positive in scratch resistance and I was happy during the initial unboxing. Then I found the first broken/shattered one....... Which led me to unsleeve 100 bulbs to check for damage. 15 were obvious freight damage. Took some pictures, Amazon was the shipper and they allowed me a credit for the damaged piece price for a lot of fifty. In hindsight I should have demanded a credit for a 'lot of 15'. BTW, the fixture conversion is a piece of cake and most likely you wont have to buy anything else other than a marker and maybe marking tape....... Read more

I've read all of the negative reviews and I'm not sure where all the issues come from these are decent bulbs. I chose to convert my fixtures to single end power and replaced all my tombstones with non shunted I had not installed them yet so it was pretty easy. Brightness and color are very good the only issue I found is that I believe the product description says the angle of illumination is 160° it is actually just over 90° which is still adequate. I've had these in seven four bulb fixtures for the last two weeks running around 14 hrs a day and have had no issues with excessive heat at all they get slightly warm and I do mean just slightly. Overall these are excellent bulbs. If you don't have a solid working knowledge of bypass lighting please have someone who does help you. Read more
