Alba Botanica Very Emollient Cream Shave Unscented 8 Oz

I have been using Kiss My Face fragrance free moisture shave cream for about 8 years, but it is no longer available. I have been searching for a fragrance-free replacement and have read many reviews on several websites. I have been shaving in the shower for 53 years and it's the last thing I do after washing my hair and body. By then my whiskers are soft and my face is wet. Two products seemed to match my fragrance-free criteria. Alba Botanica Very Emollient Cream unscented and Aveeno Therapeutic Shave Gel with Oat and Vitamin E no scent added. The cost on Amazon Prime is about $.57/oz for each. I loaded a new blade into my Gillette Fusion Power Razor and shaved half my face with each product. The results were equally as good. In fact, much better than the Kiss My Face. You only need small amounts of product and they should last a long time. Each left my face soft, smooth and without irritation. Rinsing the blade in the shower was not a problem, however, the Alba did take longer to rinse, and I can see where it would be more difficult to rinse in the sink. Alba does contain lavender and it is delectable so while it is technically fragrance free it does have a scent. I highly recommend both products and give a slight edge to the Aveeno. Read more

Pros: Easy to apply, no scent, lubricates well and gives a good shave. Cons: Doesn't lather at all, goes on completely clear and one can't see where one has shaved and one has missed. Read more

Alot of the reviews say this product is thick...and it is. But if you put a run your hand under the water before you rub it on, it waters it down a bit and makes it less thick and it works wonderfully after that. Great product. Love it! Read more

I have VERY sensitive skin and this is one of the very few shaving creams that I am able to use without getting a rash, redness, or razor burn. It seems to work the best if you use a small amount, get it a little wet, and rub it around well. I love that it does not have a fragrance and makes my skin feel soft and smooth after use. I really wanted to like this. I love Alba Botanica's face wash and I have been looking for an inexpensive cruelty free shaving cream. Unfortunately, as someone who has shaved with hair conditioner in a bind, I can say that this product is exactly like shaving with hair conditioner - you can do it, but why would you if you have the choice? I guess what I don't like most about it is that it doesn't lather. I know that aerosols are not environmentally friendly, but it doesn't have to be an aerosol, I just would like a shaving cream that lathers with water. I also would like it more if it was some color other than clear. I of course don't wear my glasses in the shower, and with this product it's really hard to see the exact spots where I've shaved, I have to guess using touch, and then I miss spots or I shave over areas I've already shaved. Again, there's probably a good reason why this company doesn't add artificial coloring to its products, but it makes it very hard to see (I just have bad eyes). And because it's so thick, I spend more time trying to de-goop my razor than I do actually shaving. After all that, it doesn't get a closer or smoother shave than the cheap shaving cream I used to buy. The only reason this gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because this product is cruelty free. That is hugely important to me and I may not be buying this product again but I appreciate that there are companies that see the importance of it. I will continue my search for a different cruelty free shaving cream, but if you like all the things that I DON'T like about it (clear, thick, non-lathering) then by all means please support this company so others follow suit with their animal testing policies. This is a great product for anyone who has both tender skin AND gets reactions to being over-moisturized. Non-lathering creams have been around for years, but often contain a lot of sticky mineral oil or (in gel form) an entire chemistry department worth of who-knows-what. This stuff is more natural (not 100%) but has has far, far fewer ingredients that have hyphenated names like propl-para-hydrated-yucky-mucktol. It also rinses clean. Priced at about the same price as other tubes of good shaving cream, it can be found with fragrances if you prefer. But guys, it's not only for ladies, trust me. Read more
