I was looking to upgrade the temperature control for my fermentation chamber for home brewing. I had been using a simple mechanical outlet timer to power my fermentation warmer. Based on the ambient temperature and desired fermentation temperature, I'd set the old timer to be on for portions of each hour. The process was not very precise and my results were mixed. My initial search for temperature controllers yielded many results but most cost a few hundred dollars. Enter the meross Smart Temperature controller. For a fraction of the price of controllers with similar features, it fully met my needs and exceeded my expectations. I'm using the "Temperature Control - Heat Mode". I mounted the temperature sensor against my fermentation vessel just above the heating element, which itself is plugged into the meross controller. I set my desired temp on the controller using the pushbuttons and LCD screen and now have precise control (+/- 0.5 degrees). You can also configure and control via the meross app. I didn't need that in this case, but do use the app with other devices (e.g. smart plugs to control my Christmas lights). Automation tasks within the app are simple to configure and can be integrated with Google Home, Alexa, or Apple Home. The meross Smart Temperature Controller has many additional features and modes beyond my simple use case. There are modes for cooling, timed on/off cycles, countdown to turn on or off, as well as scheduled heat and cool modes. In my apartment I have a very old window air conditioner installed through the wall. Unfortunately, the a/c is so old that the thermostat knob goes from 1 to 8, and even when it reaches the set temp the super loud blower fan keeps running nonstop. It doesn't help that the a/c is in a corner behind the couch just a few inches off the ground. Since my landlord won't let me upgrade it, I started looking for a way to control the a/c without having to keep turning it on and off all afternoon to save money and keep the noise down. I spent a lot of time researching many different products, and even considered getting a wall thermostat and trying to figure out a way to wire it to control an outlet using a contactor but that seemed like a lot of work. All I had to do to set it up was unplug my window a/c from the wall and plug it into the Meross, and then plug the Meross into the wall. I had to set my a/c to the coldest setting, and now use the Meross to turn it on and off. The box included a good-length wire for the thermometer, which allows me to fix it against the wall away from where the cold air blows. Connecting it to the Meross app was super easy. I've struggled with a handful of other brand's smart devices and getting them connected to the wifi or their respective apps. With the Meross, everything worked right the first time and it went through the steps so quickly that I was actually worried I missed something the first time – I reset everything and started over just to make sure I didn't miss anything but I hadn't. The app and smart home connections allow me to control the Meross as if it is a thermostat, which is perfect for me. I can turn it on and off, set the temperature I want, and it even has the ability to set a schedule for the temperature. I like that it allows me to control the "differential" also known as the "deadband", which is how many degrees it allows the temperature to get from the setpoint before it turns the a/c back on. Since I have my a/c connected to it, the compressor delay is important to me to make sure I don't damage my landlord's a/c. While I didn't expect it before I was setting it up, I was delighted to see that the app shows me how much electricity is being and has been used. It allows you to put in your cost per kilowatt hour and can then show you the cost to operate whatever you have connected. In my case, it shows me just how inefficient and expensive this old a/c unit is to operate in this uninsulated apartment. If you have an old window or wall a/c unit that uses physical knobs to control it and you want something to make it a bit smarter and more efficient, the Meross Smart Temperature Controller is the easiest plug and play option I found on the market! I bought this to keep my plant room from dropping below 60 degrees during the winter. It’s been running for a few weeks and it’s been rock solid. Setup through Meross and Apple Home was simple. The app recognized it immediately and the temperature readings have been accurate enough for what I need. The big win is how consistent it is. I have it tied to a small heater and it cycles exactly when I expect. No noticeable swing, no random disconnects, and no weird calibration issues. I already use a handful of other Meross HomeKit outlets to run my grow lights on schedules, so adding this temperature controller fit right into the setup. It just works and keeps the room where I want it. For anyone managing plants, reptiles, fermentation, or anything that needs a stable temperature, this takes all the stress out of babysitting a heater. Build quality feels normal for Meross. The outlet is a little bulky but it doesn’t block the second plug on my wall. The cord is long enough to make placement easy. Great product that’s very easy to use. I’m using it to heat garage with a non thermostat heater and it works like a charm. Use of the mobile app with the thermostat is a great asset making it easy to use and set temperature range, timers and remote control. I have several other Meross products; plugs, garage door opener, water sprinklers and strip lights, and I am very happy with their performance and ease of use. Highly recommend. Read more

Note: Not a thermostat, moreso a smart plug. It works pretty well! I currently have it set up in my garage with a space heater to keep my citrus trees warm during this winter season. And it keeps the temperature at my desired range relatively well! Read more
