So I received this HDD yesterday as a replacement for my 160GB Slim. I marked the rating as a 4 for two reasons. 1 because I just installed it I want to give it some more time before I give it a perfect 5 and that the packaging was a bit laxed In my opinion. It just came wrapped in thin bubble wrap in the silver type enclosed bag most hard drives come in with some air pouches inside. I was expecting a box or at least it tied down in the box so it could not move around. As for the HDD itself so far it's working just fine after installing it. If you have never replaced your HDD in your PS3 Slim it was a very easy process. This is a 500GB HDD that equates to 465GB once installed due to how the system reads it. After the PS3 takes up its own internal space you are left with 412GB for games etc. But that now pure space you have left to use up where a 160GB PS3 left me with about 112GB give or take. As far as the install it was very easy into the PS3 slim, in my opinion even easier than the old Fat PS3. However new to the slims is once you replace the HDD make sure you have the latest PS3 System update ready to go on a USB drive or else you will not be able to restart your PS3 and sign on to do your restore of data that you backed up. It seems fast, very quiet so far and in about a month I will update once I it's been used for a little bit. The Price is great for this HDD which I saw for about $20 more a few other places. UPDATE 20 June 2013- So its been about 7 months since I installed this HDD on my PS3 and it runs like a champ. Still have close to 300GB of space after Downloading many games from PS+ instant game collection. Its very quiet and has never once had any issues. I would highly reccommend this drive to anyone looking for an upgrade. Read more

This harddrive is great one for such a low price. Normally these kind of harddrives run at about $75 to $100. Amazon had a great deal. The harddrive runs great and I have had it for about 4 months now without any problems. I also use my PS3 almost everyday. This is great purchase and recommend it to anyone that is looking to upgrade their harddrive for a PS3. Below is what I did to install the harddrive if that is any help. I have been looking for a larger harddrive for my PS3 because of all the things I have installed on there. When I found out that you are allowed to do this and it is really simple, no matter what type of PS3 you have. I have a PS3 slim and it was super easy. To get the harddrive out I had to open a little hole area on the bottom of the system and unscrew one screw. Once I did that there is a piece in the front bottom right of the system that slides out and then you can slide out the harddrive. With the drive out I could put the new one that I had into the protective case and then put it into the PS3. It booted up fine and clean. I then put my other harddrive back into my PS3 and made a backup of the system on to my external harddrive. With putting the new harddrive in I just copied my backup over to my new harddrive and everything was there. It was a simple process. Read more

I recently purchased a PS3 Slim at a local GameStop and sprang for the 160GB. I didn't want to spend the money another hundred dollars for 250GB or go higher. Not thinking too deeply, I should've bought the lowest capacity model because I instantly craved space... and lots of it. The PS3 Slim uses a 5400RPM drive because of heat issues. While a 720RPM would provide faster loading times and an undoubtedly snappier system, I didn't want to risk melting my investment. I refuse to use WD drives after all the problems I've experienced in the past, so I went with Seagate, a company which has never pissed me off with never let me down. I found this meaty 500GB drive on Amazon for a good price and ordered it without hesitation. The drive arrived to my house three days later and I eagerly backed up my game saves and began to remove the Toshiba 160GB drive from my PS3 (I had no idea that Sony used Toshiba drives in their consoles - that pissed me off). I dropped the new drive in place and plugged the PS3 back in. It formatted the drive for me and by the time I had re-downloaded all of my games, add-ons, maps, and my game saves, I still had a hefty 379GB of space left. Much more than the highest available OEM drive of a PS3. Gran Turismo 5 alone had the option to install game data to the hard drive to cut loading times and make the menus much more snappy. The game is massively extensive and gorgeous on the Sony Grand Wega in my living room. All in all, I got exactly what I expected: Another high quality device from Seagate that'll probably outlive the PS3 unit anyway. I am completely satisfied with my purchase and would recommend Seagate to anyone, for any purpose. My particular need was PS3 storage. Maybe you want to increase laptop storage or use it as an external drive. Whatever the application, this is (in my opinion) the best company for hard drives. Read more

I found some videos showing the replacement procedure, and that worked fine, it fit fine, the laptop booted up fine the windows install worked fine the packaging was unusual but worked fine to keep the harddrive secure while in storage/shipping but I could not find ANY info in box from manufacturer... nothing to register is there a warranty? Would have thought that would have been in the product container that is why I took off a star... Read more
