320 GB Seagate Momentus HDD For PS3

Brian C.July 15, 2011

If Anybody Is Looking To Upgrade Their PS3 System, This Is The HDD To Get!! It's Been The Most Highly Recommended HDD On The Market and Sony Also Uses Them In Their Newer Systems Like The PS3 Slim. No Compatibility Issues At All. As With Some Of The Customers On Here Who Purchased This HDD, I Totally Agree With Them. Get This Seagate 320GB Hard Drive If You Want The Extra Space For Your Games, Videos, Music, Movies and Photos You May Have. This 320GB HDD Replace My Old 80GB HDD. If You Want A Smooth Transition From Your Old PS3 HDD To A Larger 320GB HDD, Just Follow These Simple Steps: First, Make Sure You Have An External Hard Drive That Is Large Enough To Backup and Store Your Old Data From Your Old PS3 HDD. Mine Was An 80GB HDD From My PS3. On Your Playstation 3 Settings Menu, Look For The Application That Says: System Settings. Next, Look For The One That Says: Backup Utility. From Here, You Must Backup Your Old PS3 Hard Drive System Data Onto An External HDD (Make Sure The External HDD Is Large Enough To Fit All Of Your Old PS3 HDD Data Before Removing The Old Hard Drive From Your System. Just Follow The Instructions On Backup Your PS3 Data. Depending On The Size Of Data On Your PS3 Old Drive, It May Take Between An Hour to 2 Hours. Once The Backup Is Complete, Shut Off The PS3 and Unplug It To Prevent Any Electrical Hazards or Damaged To Your Playstation 3 System. Second, You'll Need Either A USB Flash Drive or Still Your External Hard Drive and A Computer For Making 2 Folders Called "UPDATE" and the Other Called "PS3" On Your Computer's Desktop. Internet Access For Downloading and Installing The Latest Firmware From SONY's Playstation Network WebSite: [...] The Latest Firmware As Of July 14, 2011 Is 3.66. MOST IMPORTANT: When Getting The Update Firmware From PSN Website On The Internet, Save It Onto Your Computer's Desktop. Begin By Downloading The 3.66 Playstation Update File From SONY's Website. Once Downloaded, Place The 3.66 Updated Firmware File Into The Folder Name "UPDATE". Then, Take The Folder That Says, "UPDATE" and Place That Folder In The One That Says "PS3" Folder. Lastly, Take That "PS3" Folder Which Has Both The "UPDATE" Folder and The Firmware 3.66 Inside Of It, Drag That "PS3" Folder Over Into You External HDD or If Using A USB Flash Drive (Which Is Better To Use) Drag It Onto Your USB Flash Drive. Don't Worry About The File Size Of The Firmware. If You Have A 8GB USB Flash Drive...That's Just Fine. Double Check Yourself To Make Sure You Have Save the "PS3" folder Onto Your Flash Drive or External Drive Before Moving On To The Next Step. Now The Steps To Installing Your New 320GB HDD: 1. Remove The Lid That Covers The Playstation 3's Hard Drive Compartment. Use A Philips # 2 Screwdriver To From The BLUE SCREW That Holes The PS3 HARD DRIVE IN THE SYSTEM. Once Remove, Take Off The 4 Screws That Are Attach To The Metal Cradle Holding The Old Hard Drive In Place. Remove The Old Drive From The Metal Cradle and Install Your NEW 320GB Seagate Drive In It's Place. NOTE: Hold Onto Your Old PS3 Hard Drive Just For Safe Keeping. 2. Place The 4 Screws Back Onto The Metal Cradle That Holds The Your New 320GB HDD In Place. Once All 4 Screws Are Fasten, You Can Place The New 320GB HDD Back Into Your Playstation 3 System. 3. Place The BLUE Screw Back On The Unit That Holds The Hard Drive In Place Inside The Playstation 3. Place The Plastic Cover That Protects The Hard Drive Compartment Back On. 4. Plugin The Playstation 3 System and Make Sure Your Controller Is Plugged Into The USB Port On The Front Of The Playstation 3 System. The System Will Be Looking For It When You Turn It On. 5. Attach The USB Flash Drive and/or External Hard Drive To The Playstation 3. VERY IMPORTANT: Make Sure You Have Any Of These Attach To The PS3 Before You Turn It On. 6. Now, Turn On Your PS3 System. You Will See A Message That Says Either Missing Firmware For The PS3 System. This Is Where Your USB Flash Drive and/or External Hard Drive Come In to Upload The Latest Firmware 3.66 That Is Needed For Your PS3 To Begin Operating. When It Ask You To Press "SELECT" and "START" at The Same Time, Do So. This Will Access Your USB Flash Drive and/or External Hard Drive and Look For The Firmware 3.66 Update In The "PS3" Folder and "UPDATE" Folder You Created On Your Computer and Placed Them On Your Flash Drive and/or External Hard Drive. 7. The PS3 System Will Reboot and Will Begin To Function Once Again. Now, We Still Have A Few More Things To Complete The New 320GB HDD Upgrade. 8. Now Goto Your System Settings On Your PS3 and Access The Backup Utility and Find The One that Says: "Restore". This Is Where You Will Restore Your Old Data That You Backup Originally On Your External HDD From Before. Follow The System Instructions. This Process Will Format Your New 320GB HDD and Restore Your Old PS3 Data Onto Your New 320GB Drive. This Too Will Take A While Depending On The Size Of Your Old Data That Was Originally Backup Onto Your External HDD. Mine Backup Took Me About 2 Hours 30 Minutes To Restore Everything From The External HDD. This Include Your Games, Demos, Videos, Photos PSN Network ID To Access PSN. 9. Once The Restoration Is Complete, Check To Make Sure You Have All Your Old Data On The New 320GB Hard Drive. Check You Games, Videos, Photos, Etc. To Make Sure You Have Everything Back That You Had Before. From This Point, Your Done! You Have A New 320GB Hard Drive In Your PS3 System. When I Install My New Hard Drive and Restored The Old Data Onto It, It Gave Me 296GB and Available Free Space Of 256Gb. This Is Typical When Install New Hard Drives. You Won't Have Exactly 320Gb Or Close To It That You Expect To Have When You Install Any New Hard Drive. Whether It's A PS3 or Computer. But I'm Happy With The Result. If Everything Is Working Fine and Your Have All Your Restore Data: Videos, Games, Etc. Then Your Ready To Play or Whatever You Want To Do Like Download Tons Of Game Demos Like I Do On A Regular Basis. I Hope This Tutorial Help Anyone Who Wants To Upgrade Their PS3 To Larger Hard Drives Like The 320Gb Seagate Momentous. I Highly Recommended and A Must Buy For Anyone!! Just what I needed!

ChrisMarch 19, 2013

I had been wanting to upgrade my PS3 for some time as I was quickly running out of space on my old 80gb hard drive. 320gb sounded like more then enough space for my purposes, and the price was very low compared to the in-store versions. Installation went smoothly, and was much eisier then I had anticipated. Great to have more hard drive space, and it runs well and quietly as well! I could not be happier with my purchase! Read more

Works nicely thus far

I'm not a computer expert of any kind, so I could not tell you about performance as far as speed goes compared to something else. My hard drive on my laptop, which I bought refurbished from Dell, got busted after it slipped off an ottoman (whoops on my part). After doing some research and figuring out what kind of hard drive I had, I came across this item. I was very surprised to see this be $17 cheaper than the 250 GB hard drive of the same kind. Of course, I went on to buy this because it meant upgrading to having more for less. I believe I got a pretty good deal out of buying this item. I consider myself a satisfied customer :) Read more

Great for PS3

mike2416May 22, 2012

Had an old 40gig harddrive on my PS3 and what a difference upgrading it, the Seagate worked perfect if you follow the update instructions, takes 15min to do everything, worked like a charm. Even gamedata transferring and installing is 10x faster because of the 3gb/s transfer rate. I wish i would of done this sooner i lost so much data with having to delete old games to make room for the new ones. Read more

Damaged after 2 weeks

OmarNovember 19, 2011

The drive worked for a week and then came a fatal crash that obliged me to format. After a lengthy session to re-install the operating system and personal files (thank god for Time Machine)it worked for a day or two, and now I get the Hardware problem message from disk utility. If this is supposed to work on a Macbook, that's not my case. Read more
