Wonderful Fix So Far
Looking for solutions to security lighting for my yard and came across these bulbs with built in sensors which is an absolutely phenomenal idea because it's so much easier to replace a bulb than a light fixture! I have a dusk2dawn sensor light fixture that's gone bad so that will require a complete replacement. But my home already had flood lights on all 4 corners with motion sensors though I wasn't utilizing them continuously. Anyhow these flood lights are actually ancient, probably 18+ yrs old at least, they have a metal housing but the interior part where the bulbs screw in are in very good condition as the lights are tucked under the eave of the house. I took out the old fashioned high wattage flood light bulbs and put in these new Sunco bulbs and WOW the bulbs work perfectly and have not failed to light or turn off as expected. One of my light fixtures has a deeper recess so I thought maybe those bulbs wouldn't get enough light but the bulbs have operated properly so far. I bought the 3000k and they are VERY bright! I'm planning on getting the lower lumen for the other two fixtures just because the 3000k are really that bright and I'd like the light more mellow. I think it depends on the size of your yard & proximity of your neighbors on the brightness you use. My yard is a standard 75x100 lot in my community so not really a big property. I think the 3000k can work for a considerably larger area than what I have. Another plus about these bulbs is that they don't get hot! You can touch them while on and they don't burn you like the out dated flood lights that will burn your skin off. I can't rate for longevity because I just got the bulbs a few days ago but I will say I'm absolutely giddy that I don't have to pay an electrician to come out and fix my lights! It's great too that the bulbs have a standard base that will basically fit in most common type sockets. Love it! Will be buying more.....Oh and a tip I learned in this process: cooking oil works great to lubricate & clean off outside grime; it doesn't smell and is non-toxic and it revitalizes old metal flood light cams! I didn't use it inside the fixture of course but I used it to clean off the outside and amazingly it deepened the color, hid a bit of rust, so the fixtures look like they got a new paint job. Pretty cool and low cost. Happy lighting :-) Read more
