I have copious amounts of thick, long hair that is unruly and doesn't like to hold a curl. A few years ago I learned how to curl my hair with a flat iron and that is shockingly one way my hair actually looks good and holds the curl. So this review is based off that experience. This curling iron does work but there's a bit of a learning curve. You can set between 3 temperatures (I used the highest) and 3 durations. The duration just provides an audible beep after the set number of seconds have passed from stopping the "spin". To use, you take a strand of hair and feed it through the split tip of the rod and then lay it along the hair wrap guides. Then you press the button for L or R to spin the grabber parts around the rod which wraps the strand of hair around the heated portion of the rod. Once fully wrapped, you release the botton and let it set until you hear the beep and slowly pull the rod down to release the curled hair. Pretty straight forward, except that sometimes you push the wrong button and so it starts to wrap the hair the wrong way and you have to start over. Other times the hair guides catch on other hair and tangles up everything. The results are decent, although I get better, longer lasting curls with the flat iron technique. The pics are before, right after, and about an hour after so you can see the results. Read more

Tried this curler on medium-length hair using different temperature settings. It heats up fast, but the rotation sometimes pulls hair awkwardly if the section is not perfectly placed. A few strands felt slightly tugged before releasing. The anti-scald design helps near the face, though curls did not last as long as hoped. It gets the job done, but control and curl hold feel average. Read more

This automatic curling iron works really well. I love how smooth my hair feels after using it. It's easy to use and curls so well. There are 2 barrel sizes and both look amazing with my medium length hair. The iron itself feels like it was made well. It is not heavy, but feels sturdy. It heats up fast and does a fantastic job styling my hair into individual curls. I don't even have to use any smoothing product, as this iron naturally smooths the hair shaft. It is a tremendous value for money, and I definitely recommend it. It would also make a great gift, as it is versatile, and can make almost any hair length look amazing. Read more

I tried this automatic curling iron and honestly it made hair styling way easier than usual. The grooves and that built-in guide kept my strands lined up just right and the beep timer told me when to let go so I didn’t end up with burnt or over-curled bits. My curls came out smooth and even first try, which felt really satisfying. The barrel felt gentle on my hair — thanks I guess to the tourmaline ceramic glaze plus oil coating that prevented those yanks and frizz that sometimes happen. My hair felt softer and looked shinier afterwards, which I appreciated. The 360° cool-touch design kept me from burning my fingers which made the experience less stressful. On value I think this tool hits a decent spot — I didn’t pay salon prices yet got pretty polished results. I used the two barrel sizes and liked how easy swapping them was. The smaller barrel gave defined curls while the larger one made softer waves — versatility that came in handy depending on my mood. On a busy morning I could heat up quick and finish styling within ten minutes or so. Overall this curler earned a place in my beauty routine. Read more

I tried one of these automatic curling irons years ago and just couldn't get it to work well for me. This curler is a little more user-friendly (watching videos helps!), but still not great, with a learning curve. I have long, fine hair, but a lot of it. Curling takes about twice as long vs. a traditional clamp-down, because I have to use thinner chunks of hair. I also end up having to fix up a few spots with a regular iron afterwards anyway. I do like that you have to option of curling in or out. It's also virtually burn-proof. It doesn't hold a curl for me as well as a traditional iron though, but less heat damage is the trade-off. Overall, it's okay but I think this would work best on medium-length hair rather than short or long *Update: I'm getting the hang of this better. It still takes longer to curl all my hair than a traditional iron, but I'm more used to handling this now. I've also played around with the barrel/heat/timer settings and have found a combo that works better at holding a curl on my hair. Upgrading rating to 4 stars Read more
