Purchased a 4 year plan for a dehumidifier that was freezing up on the lower coils only, which is a symtom of refrigerant loss. I filed an online claim; within minutes I was issued an Amazon gift card refund for the original purcase price. Fast, easy, and no hassle. I bought this plan because my experience with modern dehumidifiers have shown that they have lost refrigerant at 2-3 years of use. It is my understanding that the current "more environmentally friendly" refigereants have smaller molecules, thus leak out more easily and that's why they no longer last 25 years. Without a protection plan, you are lucky, they fail within the typical 1 year warranty and typically the manufacturer replaces or refunds, but will not process the claim before a repair center verifies it as non-repairable. There are no local repair centers where I live; with another plan I had to drive an hour to get to one...$; you have to ship to others... $$$! If you aren't lucky, they fail anytime after the warranty expires. Once a unit loses refrigerant, virtually no one will repair a home dehumidifier or a/c like they would for a comnercial unit, so a repair center step costs money and time while the humidity skyrockets in your home. Protection plans typically are refunded if the unit is replaced under the manufacturer's warranty period. I have had this positive experience. With the Asurion plan, my unit failed and the next day, I filed a claim describing the failure and got an "instant" refund on an e-mailed Amazon gift card and placed the order for a new one. No repair center brick wall! The only downside was that the unit I wanted was about 2 weeks out for Prime delivery, but was available off the shelf locally; you have to be satisfied with re-ordering from Amazon or buying somewhere else and sitting on the Anazon gift card for later use. I then filed a claim with Asurion and did not expect a full refund immediately after the claim. Asurion did not ask any questions or gave any hard time. It is so easy for the refund. Well, the claim was approved. However, there was no follow up, no email, no updates after I created the claim and sent in the paperwork. It was approved for a while. I had to request status of my claim thru "Chat". It was about three weeks later. It was resolved then. But no correspondence up to that point. Not sure if this is a digital problem or someone sitting on it. Service was not like this two years ago when I started the protection service. I would receive status the same day.
